As someone who loves fashion and has built a platform over the past few years selling clothes from hundreds of different brands (including ), I wanted to share a dedicated post on something I talk about often.
The industry is extremely harmful and there IS actual power in choosing not to participate in the overconsumption of temporary fashion trends from companies like them. However, I do not believe in shaming those who do not have the financial ability to pay for ethical/eco-friendly clothing nor do I believe people shouldn't have access to the convenience online stores provide (e.g. fast shipping) because sometimes there is a valid need. But this is a friendly reminder there are plenty of other options like thrifting, online shops (depop, PWYC (hehe), poshmark) and even clothing rental companies (like nuuly, rent the runway). These are more affordable and sustainable alternatives that will still allow you to enjoy fashion trends without overconsuming. I encourage you to look into them. Another tip to slow down your shopping impulses is to screenshot an item you like and come back to it in a few weeks (or even months). If you like it after some time has passed, then buy it. I often find items in my screenshots from a few months back that I am relieved I didn't buy.
For those who buy hundreds and even thousands of dollars worth of clothing from fast companies, then that is a big shame on you. If you have the financial privilege, please spend it on clothing that is not only sustainable and ethical, but will last you a long time and won't be given to a thrift store or thrown in the landfill in the next year.
Okay thanks, getting off my soap box. It's slipperyyyy π§Ό
