Black August is a month for deep reflection, political education, and ongoing resistance. At the Safe Return Project, this time reminds us of the legacy of incarcerated freedom fighters who organized behind prison walls and started a liberation movement that still shapes our work.

We continue that legacy by supporting the leadership of people most affected by criminalization. Our commitment to Black August shows in our daily work, from healing spaces like our Sister Circle and LAT&X workshops to the impact of our Credible Messengers, Richard Boyd Fellows, and Collective Impact Institute. We are working toward a future where our community leads the way to economic dignity, well-being, and real justice.

As we come together this month, let’s commit to learning more and working together to disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline and end mass incarceration.
