This Saturday, we gather for our 16th Annual Gala: Share Your Voice 🎤 🎶 ✨

For nearly 60 years, East Bay Center for the Performing Arts has offered tuition-free arts education to Richmond’s children and youth, from traditional Mexican son and West African drumming to steel pan, ballet, hip hop, and more.

The gala is sold out, and we’re so grateful. But you don’t need a ticket to help a young artist share their voice.

Your gift sustains tuition-free youth arts in Richmond, so the next generation always has a stage.

This summer, our Chorus C/D students wrote an original song, “Look Up,” in collaboration with faculty member and Oakland-based pianist, singer, composer, producer, and musical director Dana Salzman (Dana Salzman). Inspired by what happens when we look up from our phones, become present in our own lives, and make space to truly see and support one another, the song reflects the experiences, questions, and hopes of the students who wrote it.

There’s something especially powerful about hearing this message from students growing up in the Bay Area, the epicenter of the technology that shapes so much of our daily lives. While young people are often criticized for being “too connected” to their devices, these students chose to write about presence: tuning into themselves, one another, and the world around them.

🎶 “Look Up,” written by Chorus C/D students with Dana Salzman.

Take a look behind the scenes with this glimpse into the rehearsal process.

This summer, our partnership with Pogo Park helped create even more space for creativity to flourish. With Summer Intensive in full swing and every corner of the Center buzzing with activity, students took their dance classes to Harbour Hall at Pogo Park’s Harbour-8 campus. We’re grateful to our longtime community partners for opening their beautiful new space to our young artists and for helping extend our classrooms into the community we proudly call home.

Check out what our Young Artist Diploma students have been learning this summer during our annual 5 week Summer Intensive program 🎶🥁🎷

About the Program:
Over five weeks during the summer, 7th-12th grade students are onsite Monday - Friday for full-day training and instruction. The Summer Intensive requires cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary training, as well as technical instruction in music, dance, media, and contemporary theater forms. The program culminates with a final week of evening performances that highlight what the students have learned together over the summer. Catch a glimpse of our students in action in this video!

We’re delighted to invite you to mark your calendars for our 16th Annual Gala on Saturday, October 17th at 5pm at East Bay Center for the Performing Arts in Richmond.

This year, our Gala theme is Share Your Voice, reflecting one of our four youth development outcomes that we’ve co-created with students (Know Yourself, Share Your Voice, Build Community, and Give Back).

Share Your Voice uplifts each student who bravely expresses themselves and creates new possibilities for themselves and their communities through their artistic practice.

We hope you can join us for a memorable evening of community and celebration!
