The El Sobrante Stroll and the El Sobrante Pride Festival were great fun and a wonderful experience for F4T. During these 2 different events, money was donated and people signed up to volunteer. But first and foremost, there many conversations about F4T - what it offers children and their families. Thank you to all who participated!

It is with great respect that Food for Thought of CCC honors the memory of Penelope Anne Globus-Norman, PhD who passed away on June 30th, 2026, at UCSF Medical Center after a two-decades long rivalry with cancer. Penny was one of the original four who launched Food for Thought in its first years. She was a brilliant scientist and, after working as a programmer at NASA, Penny completed multiple undergraduate degrees in the life and physical scientific disciplines. She served as a scientific researcher in biology and in 1991 earned her PhD in Biophysics at the University of California, Berkeley.
Penny was the co-founder and President of Norman & Globus, Inc., a Bay Area company that develops hands-on science books, kits, puzzles, and educational software for children. The company's award-winning products have been sold to schools, museums, and families for decades under the ScienceWiz™ brand.
Penny's published titles and multiple patents reflect her extensive testing and involvement with children and teachers and her love and commitment to both. She was recognized as a leader in educational curriculum and was dedicated to making science fun and accessible for children of all ages.
Her games have been part of the Food for Thought bundle since its first year, with intentions eventually to pilot classroom projects centered on the games. She provided the practical link between nutrition and learning, which is the heart of Food for Thought. We hope her memory will be served through its continuation.

Veolia is an international company that donated $2000 to F4T of Contra Costa County. Since 2002, the City of Richmond has partnered with Veolia Water North America to operate and maintain its wastewater treatment plant and stormwater collection system, while also overseeing capital improvements through a design/build/operate (DBO) approach. The partnership has led to significant improvements in the city’s water management infrastructure and environmental performance.
