Below are the five pillars that steer our mission:
Community — Constantly pivot toward relevant outreach to enrich the communities in the heart of public housing. Education — Invest resources to educate the most marginalized high-school youth who are unable to succeed in a traditional education environment. The students who are chronically absent, failing, suspended, expelled, etc. Employment — P
rovide employment opportunities to empower Richmond's youth through local businesses and through our own Kickstand. Health & Wellness — Use cycling as a tool to create engagement as a means toward further development. Individual Support — Provide structure and stability as an invested ally in the lives of those we serve. RCC has different programs to support our mission:
Cycling
The Richmond Cycling Corps offers many different programs to support the middle and high school students of Richmond's East End. With our full inventory of bikes, students are able to participate in programming for zero cost to families as we strive to fill the gap of out-of-school time programs for children in often underserved communities. Casual Riding — The first step toward learning to ride is sharing the beauty and freedom of cycling as a gateway to physical activity, relationship building, and empowerment. Long Distance Riding — Setting attainable goals, training, “delayed gratification” Building up endurance towards the goal of riding the Capital Trail from Richmond to Jamestown. Targeted Goals of 25/50/75/100 miles
Racing — The Richmond Cycling Corps has taken the Legacy race team on trips across the state of Virginia, competing both in the NICA and VAHS leagues. The Kickstand
Located right on the James River in between historic Shockoe Bottom and Rockett’s Landing, come find our shipping container full of bikes ready to be rented and enjoyed along the Virginia Capital Trail. The Kickstand is operated directly by current RCC youth and alumni. Working there, they learn about and conduct nearly every facet of owning and operating a business. Located at 3011 Water St, Richmond, VA 23223 — Parking available just north and west of the Kickstand
Outreach
The majority of our work happens off of the bike. If there is someone in the community that could use our assistance we aim to be part of their lives. From daily support, tutoring, navigating school and college, gaining employment, or finding housing.
