Richmond Cycling Corps

Richmond Cycling Corps Richmond Cycling Corps mission is to educate and empower the lives of Richmond youth. Richmond Cycling Corps is beyond just the bicycle.

Below are the five pillars that steer our mission:

Community — Constantly pivot toward relevant outreach to enrich the communities in the heart of public housing. Education — Invest resources to educate the most marginalized high-school youth who are unable to succeed in a traditional education environment. The students who are chronically absent, failing, suspended, expelled, etc. Employment — P

rovide employment opportunities to empower Richmond's youth through local businesses and through our own Kickstand. Health & Wellness — Use cycling as a tool to create engagement as a means toward further development. Individual Support — Provide structure and stability as an invested ally in the lives of those we serve. RCC has different programs to support our mission:

Cycling
The Richmond Cycling Corps offers many different programs to support the middle and high school students of Richmond's East End. With our full inventory of bikes, students are able to participate in programming for zero cost to families as we strive to fill the gap of out-of-school time programs for children in often underserved communities. Casual Riding — The first step toward learning to ride is sharing the beauty and freedom of cycling as a gateway to physical activity, relationship building, and empowerment. Long Distance Riding — Setting attainable goals, training, “delayed gratification” Building up endurance towards the goal of riding the Capital Trail from Richmond to Jamestown. Targeted Goals of 25/50/75/100 miles

Racing — The Richmond Cycling Corps has taken the Legacy race team on trips across the state of Virginia, competing both in the NICA and VAHS leagues. The Kickstand
Located right on the James River in between historic Shockoe Bottom and Rockett’s Landing, come find our shipping container full of bikes ready to be rented and enjoyed along the Virginia Capital Trail. The Kickstand is operated directly by current RCC youth and alumni. Working there, they learn about and conduct nearly every facet of owning and operating a business. Located at 3011 Water St, Richmond, VA 23223 — Parking available just north and west of the Kickstand

Outreach
The majority of our work happens off of the bike. If there is someone in the community that could use our assistance we aim to be part of their lives. From daily support, tutoring, navigating school and college, gaining employment, or finding housing.

48 hours until the best event of the year, are you ready?

Join us in celebration on Libby Hill Saturday morning from 9am to noon and cheer on our riders as they tackle the Libby Hill cobbles.
We have puppy contestants that will go off promptly at nine before we shift to their human counterparts.
DAILY COFFEE CO will be parked atop the hill, but arrive at 830am with your own portable coffee equipment for Coffee Outside RVA a tradition where you DIY a cup of good coffee in a park with friends.

The first person to get a donation from one of their coworkers for $20 or more in the next 24 hours wins this custom made, color shift Snack Sack from .sacks.rva - that's an $80 bag!!!

Make sure you leave a note with your contribution, so we know who your coworker is - otherwise we won't know.

FIVE DAYS UNTIL THE ALPE DU RICHMOND!

We’ve been talking about this event so much, but for those of you in the back…

The Alpe Du Richmond is a two part fundraiser that makes summer programming possible for us.

Local supporters are raising money through individual online fundraisers, which we celebrate with a fun hill climb contest on Libby Hill on June 13th.
Kids are out of school, and while we still see elective cycling through the we don’t have any other structured school groups. That means that we can spend all that extra time riding with our team, training and spending more daylight hours on the bike than we normally get..
This is our time to take the squad camping, to take them to a downhill park to ride, and to work up to our big mileage goals on the

We can’t do this without your help, and the Alpe du Richmond is our way to make it all happen.

Head to the link in bio and help our local supporters meet their goals. You can even donate directly to the event itself, which goes straight into our summer fund.

One of our favorite slices of pizza is returning for another AdR - and we couldn't be more stoked!

We are about 1/3 of the way to our funding goal for the Summer - and the next fundraiser to hit the $1500 mark wins an awesome prize...a brand new, their-size, pair of Shimano S-phyre shoes.

Can you help them out? They might win a great pair of clip-in cycling shoes, and you'll make sure our youth community has a solid summer of support and cycling programming.
