We conquered the scorching heat today to bring hope and nourishment to nearly 700 families who came through our lines. It's on days like these that we're reminded of the transformative power of collective effort and the unwavering dedication of our team in helping us fulfill our mission to serve our neighbors. We can never do what we do without everyone who pitches in, even through the brutal weather. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Ever wonder what a busy Thursday morning is like at Belmont? The main event is a three-hour packing extravaganza, prepping meat, produce, deli, dry goods, bread, and dessert in preparation for distribution on Friday. Our regular Thursday volunteers and team leads are powerhouses, and this well-oiled machine really gets the job done! Today we also had a large corporate group helping out, plus more mother-son teams from YMSL and a few teens from Maggie Walker. It was a very HOT but very productive day, and we are well prepared to welcome about 700 neighbors on Friday!

Big thanks to Mary Munford Elementary School for donating their unclaimed Lost & Found items to Belmont! Our Closet shoppers will love these items. The haul was delivered by Grey, a just-graduated-fifth-grader who was also the recipient of the Maggie Walker service award this year at Munford. Congrats to him! Grey has been spending a lot of time at Belmont already this summer, coordinating our pet food bagging and distribution, along with his mom and other hard-working elementary students who have been volunteering with us.

In addition to the big groups of high schoolers we had Thursday, we also had a group from Cristo Rey Richmond High School on Friday, plus students from Maggie Walker, Open High, Richmond Community, and more! We love hosting young student volunteers during the summer! We were thrilled to welcome 60 new volunteers last week alone! Thursday we hosted a large youth group from First Presbyterian Church, Richmond, Va, as well as new volunteers from the Young Men's Service League - YMSL. Belmont volunteer Allison, who also brings her hard-working kids to Belmont regularly to volunteer, recently put out a call to her friend network for bag donations, which we always need. The response was overwhelming, as she collected dozens and dozens of bags of all kinds! She and the kids brought them to Belmont on Thursday and helped us label some of them for use in the Closet. Thank you, Allison and family! Amazingly helpful! (We also still need egg cartons if anyone can bring some to Belmont next week and beyond!)

It may not have officially been Take Your Child to Work day today, but the daughters of both our executive director and our communications manager were helping out at Belmont today (and they didn't even coordinate beforehand), doing data entry, moving produce, and packaging eggs for distribution. Great job, girls! Thanks for all the help!
