🇺🇸 National Day of the Deployed | October 26

Today, we honor the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who are deployed around the world in service to our nation.

Deployment requires sacrifice, strength, and resilience. Not only from those who serve, but also from the families, friends, and communities who stand behind them while they are away.

On National Day of the Deployed, the Richmond Institute for Veterans Research recognizes and honors:

🇺🇸 Those currently serving away from home
🇺🇸 Veterans who have experienced deployment
🇺🇸 Military families who carry the weight of separation
🇺🇸 The communities that continue to support our service members

To every service member currently deployed: we see you, we appreciate you, and we are grateful for your service and sacrifice.

And to the families waiting at home: your strength and sacrifice matter, too. 💙

Today and every day, we honor those who serve and remain committed to supporting the health and well-being of our nation’s Veterans.

Thank you for your service. 🇺🇸

🧠 Today is World Mental Health Day | October 10

This Mental Health Day coincides with this month being National Mental Health Screening Month, making this an important time to pause, check in, and remind ourselves that mental health is just as important as physical health.

For Veterans, mental health can be shaped by many experiences, including military service, deployment, transition to civilian life, injury, loss, and the challenges that can come after service. But mental health matters to all of us, and no one should feel like they have to navigate those challenges alone.

💙 Checking in is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Mental health screenings can help identify concerns early and connect people with the support and resources they may need. Whether you're checking in with yourself, a Veteran in your life, a loved one, or a friend, starting the conversation can make a difference.

This month, take a moment to:
✔️ Check in with yourself
✔️ Check in on someone you care about
✔️ Learn the signs and symptoms of mental health concerns
✔️ Consider completing a mental health screening
✔️ Reach out for support when you need it

At the Richmond Institute for Veterans Research, we believe advancing Veteran health means supporting the whole person — mind and body. Through research, innovation, and education, we remain committed to improving the health and well-being of those who have served.

This World Mental Health Day, let’s make checking in part of taking care of ourselves and each other. 💙

This month, we honor those who have been affected by breast cancer, celebrate survivors, remember those we have lost, and recognize the families, caregivers, researchers, and healthcare professionals who continue to support the fight against this disease.

At the Richmond Institute for Veterans Research, we believe in the power of research to improve lives and advance healthcare for Veterans and their families. Awareness, early detection, education, and continued research all play an important role in creating better health outcomes.

This October, let’s encourage one another to prioritize our health, stay informed, support those affected by breast cancer, and continue advancing research that can make a difference. 💗

💜🧠 WORLD ALZHEIMER’S DAY 🧠💜

Today, on World Alzheimer’s Day, we raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and honor the individuals, families, caregivers, and communities whose lives are touched by dementia.

For Veterans, advancing our understanding of brain health and neurological conditions is especially important. Research can help us better understand the challenges Veterans face and work toward better ways to prevent, detect, treat, and care for those affected.

At the Richmond Institute for Veterans Research, we believe research has the power to improve lives and shape a healthier future for Veterans.

💜 Together, we can support awareness, advance research, and help create a future where no one faces Alzheimer’s alone.

🇺🇸🕯️WE REMEMBER. WE HONOR. WE WILL NEVER FORGET. 🕯️🇺🇸

Today, on National POW/MIA Recognition Day, we pause to honor the brave Americans who were prisoners of war and those who remain missing in action.

Their service and sacrifice are forever woven into the story of our nation. Their families continue to carry their memory, their hope, and their legacy.

At the Richmond Institute for Veterans Research, we are committed to supporting Veterans and advancing research that helps improve the health and well-being of those who have served our country.

Today and every day, we remember those who served, those who sacrificed, and those who have not yet come home.

You are not forgotten. 🇺🇸

🕯️Remember our POWs.
Remember our MIAs.
Honor their service.
