Today our Swim School coaches received an awesome sign created by recent Swim School graduate and current camper, Claire! After graduating, Claire joined her brother on the Rapids swim team and we are thrilled to see her back in the instructional pool this week as she continues to refine her swim skills in camp lessons. Thanks for the awesome artwork, Claire!

Thank You Ed! 💙

Today we celebrated Hammerheads Coach Ed Boyle as he wrapped up his final day with SwimRVA before retirement. Ed began coaching at age 18 and has since built decades of experience working with swimmers and triathletes of all levels. Throughout his coaching career, he has worked with age group swimmers for SwimRVA Rapids, adults at Southampton Recreation, and has been a part of the SwimRVA Hammerheads coaching staff for over 10 years.

Thank you for all that you have done for SwimRVA, Ed- you are truly the GOAT! 🐐

This is what it's all about 🫶🏊

We recently received a copy of a journal entry from one of Mrs. Avula's second grade students at Chimborazo Elementary School who participated in our Learn-To-Swim program at SwimRVA-Church Hill. We are absolutely thrilled to see the meaningful impact of Learn-To-Swim lessons through the sense of safety and confidence expressed by this student while spending time at the pool, especially as we wrap up National Water Safety Month and head into the summer!

We were excited to run a Water Safety Instructor (WSI) course last week, especially in light of National Water Safety Month! Led by our Senior Programs Coordinator Sierra, participants learned how to help individuals enjoy their time in the water safely and in a wide range of ways. Topics included water safety, hydrodynamics, working with various ages and ability levels, stroke mechanics, fundamentals of diving, and more. Great work, everyone!

Last weekend we received an extremely generous donation of $25,000 worth of swim gear from Waves4Change, an organization founded by Super Sectionals participant Maximus and his brother Jay Cole. Including bathing suits, tech suits, kickboards, fins, paddles, goggles, and more, the donation will be instrumental in supporting our Drownproof Richmond initiative.

Check out waves4change.com to read more about the incredible work they are doing to make swimming more accessible!

Coach for the Day 😎

During our Swim-A-Thon a few weeks ago, Advanced Novice swimmers were told that the swimmer who raised the most in their group would have the opportunity to write and coach practice for a day- and Madeline was our winner!

Madeline decided to write an IM practice, coaching the 3:45 group that she typically swims in and then hopping in the water to swim her practice with the following group. Madeline did an awesome job coaching her peers, handing out Smarties afterwards and even wearing the signature "Coach Brad" look complete with fun socks!

Great job, Madeline!

We're thrilled to see so many of our Learn-To-Swim participants making progress in the water especially during National Water Safety Month! Over 50% of the U.S. population does not know how to swim, making formal swimming lessons extremely crucial to prevent accidental drownings. This group is well on their way to forging a lifetime of water safety and we could not be more happy about it!
