Ramapo for Children

Ramapo for Children Through youth programs & professional development for adults, we strive to ensure children of all abilities have opportunities to learn, grow and succeed.

Through direct service youth programs and highly regarded training programs for adults, Ramapo works on behalf of children who face obstacles to learning, including children with special needs, enabling them to succeed in the classroom, at home, and in life. At the heart of our work is the conviction that all children seek the same things: to learn, feel valued, and experience success. Ramapo help

s young people learn to align their behaviors with their aspirations. For more information about Ramapo for Children, please visit our website or contact our Communications Department at [email protected].

Growth doesn’t always happen in the moment—it often becomes clear in hindsight.🌿

In our conversation with David Grate, he reflects on his time at Ramapo and how those experiences helped him better understand himself, his relationships, and the path he’s on today.

Some camp traditions are built to last.

A former counselor and woodshop instructor handcrafted these mailboxes for our camper areas — a reminder that once you’re part of camp, you always leave a piece of yourself here 🤎📬

Happy June! ☀️As the school year winds down and we start preparing for summer programming, let’s come back to Modeling and Self-Awareness Area of Practice:

What we do is more powerful than what we say. We aspire to align our own behavior with our community’s shared values, goals, and expectations.

Creating communities where we learn, grow and connect begins with each of us.

We reflect what we bring, how we show up, and strive to “be the person we want young people to be."

The moments you know, and some you don’t (yet) 👀

This summer at Camp Ramapo, we’re mixing familiar favorites with a few exciting new additions across campus 💫

A new water trampoline is coming to the waterfront—bringing even more energy, laughter, and lake days to remember.

StarLab joins us with immersive 360-degree journeys through space, history, and beyond 🌌

A little library is coming to life outside Karelsen—a shared take one, leave one space where campers and staff can swap books and keep stories circulating throughout camp 📚

And Wayfinder Experience returns with a story-driven LARP program full of adventure, teamwork, and creativity 🎭

Meet Julia 🤍

Since Fall 2020, Julia has been a dedicated trainer at Ramapo for Children, focusing on early childhood development, autism support, relationships, and conflict resolution—her favorite topic being Meeting Sensory Needs

✨ “You are not alone in this work — and you have tremendous power to make a difference for a child.”

A former Ramapo camp counselor turned teacher, Julia brings 12 years of classroom experience plus the perspective of being a parent. Her work is grounded in curiosity, compassion, and understanding the “why” behind children’s behavior.

Outside of work, she’s a proud mom of two. Her five-year-old says, “Mommy is fun and reads books a lot.” 📚

Every environment is communicating something.”

This fall, educator Jenine DeMarzo, Ed.D. will be featured in our upcoming newsletter with her article, Through the Ramapo Lens — a reflection on how intentional spaces can shape behavior, emotional regulation, dignity, and community.

What began as small changes to a classroom environment evolved into something larger: shared ownership, stronger relationships, and spaces
where both students and staff could feel valued.
