Driver's Edge

Driver's Edge The REAL Driver's Edge! The non-profit guys from Las Vegas helping young drivers behind the wheel!

Edge provides a free educational program for young drivers (aged 15-21) that teaches real life emergency avoidance and response techniques and overall driver safety. This innovative program is taught by true driving professionals through a unique combination of behind the wheel and classroom experiences. Driver’s Edge was specifically developed to address the unacceptably high number of youth rela

ted automobile collisions and fatalities that occur each year. Events are conducted on an annual National Tour (visiting multiple cities throughout the United States) and on an ongoing basis in Las Vegas, Nevada, the home of Driver’s Edge. A big THANK YOU to KLAS Channel 8 News for featuring Driver’s Edge throughout August as part of their Community Pride Partner program!

Support like this matters. Media exposure helps us reach more Nevada families, and community and donor support helps keep Driver’s Edge programs free for teens and parents.

Together, that support helps us continue our mission of giving young drivers the skills they need to make safer decisions behind the wheel — and ultimately helping keep teens safer on Nevada’s roads.

Thank you, Channel 8, for helping us spread the word and supporting the mission!

Last week, five 17-year-old boys lost their lives when the vehicle they were riding in left the road and went over a cliff in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Investigators are still working to determine exactly what happened, with speed being considered as a possible factor.

Five teenagers. Five families whose lives changed forever.

Stories like this are difficult to read. For those of us at Driver’s Edge, they are also a painful reminder of why we continue to do what we do.

For more than two decades, we’ve put young drivers behind the wheel and allowed them to experience — in a safe, controlled environment — what happens when a car loses traction, what to do in emergency braking scenarios, and how to react when the unexpected happens.

We can’t prepare young drivers for every situation.

But we can give them the skills and experience to be better prepared when the unexpected happens.

Registration for our next Reno Driver’s Edge event is now open.

The program is free.

The lessons can last a lifetime.

Sponsor Saturday! 🩷

It takes a community to make Driver’s Edge possible.

Every Reno program is made possible by organizations that believe in protecting young drivers.

Thank you to Zero Teen Fatalities, the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety, and NDOT for helping make our Reno program possible through grant funding. NDOT also provides the water truck that keeps our skid pad wet, making one of our most valuable hands-on training exercises possible.

Thank you to Champion Chevrolet for supplying the vehicles our students train in.

Thank you to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office for generously providing their outstanding training facility.

Thank you to Trooper Dan Gordan and the Nevada State Police for educating parents and teens while building positive connections with young drivers.

Thank you to Monster Energy for keeping our team fueled throughout the weekend.

Thank you to the Reno Aces and our newest partner, the University of Nevada, Reno, for providing awards and prizes for our students.

We’re grateful to every partner who helps make this free program possible and gives teens and their parents the skills and experience that can save lives.

Experience matters.

Jeff Andretti Motorsports is on-site this weekend working with Driver’s Edge students.

From the Indianapolis 500 and IndyCar to endurance racing and sports cars, Jeff Andretti has spent decades competing at the highest levels of motorsports.

Today, he shares that experience by coaching drivers across the country and mentoring the next generation behind the wheel.

That’s exactly the kind of real-world experience we want our students learning from.

While the instructors are on course, our Admin Team keeps everything running, from check-in and coffee to lunches, water, cones, and a hundred details in between. They’re the reason our events run as smoothly as they do.

Thank you for all you do!

We’re underway in Reno!

Today kicks off four days of Driver’s Edge at the Regional Public Safety Training Center, where more than 1,000 teens and parents will gain hands-on experience that goes far beyond traditional driver’s education.

From the panic braking exercise to the skid pad, students are learning what it feels like when a vehicle reaches its limits—and, more importantly, how to respond when the unexpected happens.

This is just the beginning of an exciting four days, so stay tuned for more highlights throughout the event!
