Rounding out our collaborative pianist team are these five outstanding artists who serve our training groups!

1. Peter Bassford accompanies the Ragazzi Premiere level and tutors music theory. You can also hear Peter playing the processional music for every Ragazzi recital on the organ!
2. Kaori Nakano teaches Ragazzi Premiere and plays piano for two Primary Group classes. She also teaches in the Redwood City School District and teaches musical theatre.
3. Kumiko Nishikawa hails from Japan and is the newest addition to Ragazzi's suite of pianists. Outside of her work with Primary Group, she enjoys caring for alpacas!
4. Dace Samta is originally from Latvia. She accompanies our Avanti chorus and is also a longtime Ragazzi parent!
5. Marilyn Wells has played for Ragazzi for multiple decades, dating back to when her three sons sang in the program. She has also made many Ragazzi-themed quilts!

The next appreciation post for our collaborative pianists is also a birthday shoutout! Nancy Whitecar assists in directing and plays piano with our Young Men's Ensemble. She has also taught our Prelude and Primary Group classes and served as Training Groups Coordinator. Since 2017, Nancy has played a crucial role in the music journeys of our youngest and oldest choristers.

On behalf of the whole Ragazzi family, happy birthday, Nancy!

September is National Piano Month, so we're shouting out Ragazzi's amazing collaborative pianists! First up is Yongyu Gao, who plays with Concert Group and Choral Scholars. A dedicated staff member, Yongyu has played for almost every Ragazzi concert since fall 2019 and has traveled with us on five international tours!

Listen for her exquisite artsistry in our rendition of "Tree" by Eric Tuan! https://youtu.be/w9e-i35wNiE

PIANIST FUN FACT: Yongyu also plays the accordion and organ, and she loves to try new instruments!
