The Veterans Memorial Gardens are waking up with the spring sunshine.

I stopped by the Veterans Memorial today to check on the spring flowering bulbs. They are looking fresh and cheerful, a sign of things to come.

SPRING FLOWERS WILL BE HERE BEFORE YOU KNOW IT!
Most of the flowering bulbs have not opened yet, but I thought I’d post one from another spring to get everyone inspired. We planted bulbs at the Veterans Memorial last fall, so keep an eye out for them in the next month or two.
We aren’t doing Walk n W**d anymore. We will get together to plant annuals at the Veterans Memorial so that it gets a good spring start. A few of us will stop in from time to time to deadhead there if needed. We’re hoping that Don and whoever he gets to help him will be able to take care of the plants and do all the weeding, pruning and tree work in the 70+ Gardens along 302. It’s a big job, but the volunteers’ time there is winding down.
Thank you so much to all the dozens of dedicated volunteers we had over the last 23 years!

IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK A BIT MORE FESTIVE!
The red bows have been added to the barrels at the Veterans Memorial Park. The fresh snow makes it look even prettier.

WE WERE A LITTLE EMOTIONAL TODAY
After 22 years, it was the LAST EVER organized work session for this version of the Raymond Beautification Committee. We put the greens in the barrels at the Veterans Memorial Park, both welcome to Raymond signs and the library sign barrel. I will add some red bows after Thanksgiving.
I was so happy to have Jan and Mally join me and Don for our last official day! Thank you ladies for bringing evergreen branches and red winter berries, and thank you for all your support and friendship. And thank you to the dozens of other volunteers we’ve had over the years, and to those who supported us financially and emotionally.
I will be working through the winter to encourage the Town to arrange some sort of replacement for the work that we do. If anyone is interested, please do get in touch with the new town manager or town clerk. I am not going anywhere and will always be ready to lend a helping hand.

Fall at the Veterans Memorial
We planted most of the bulbs today and decorated the monument for fall. There’s just a little bit more to do next week for fall, and then we’ll be onto winter seasonal decorating after that.
