Today we recognize Indigenous Peoples Day in Maine by reflecting on this Mi'kmaq Prayer, which was shared with us by Wabanaki REACH, an organization which supports the self-determination of Wabanaki people through education, truth-telling, restorative justice, and restorative practices in Wabanaki and Maine communities. The four Tribes of the Wabanaki Confederacy are the Passamaquoddy, Penobscot, Maliseet and Mi'kmaq.

Mi'kmaq Prayer
“Creator, open our hearts to peace and healing between all people.
Creator, open our hearts to provide and protect for all children of the earth.
Creator, open our hearts to respect for the earth, and all the gifts of the earth;
Creator, open our hearts to end exclusion, violence, and fear among all.
Thank you for the gifts of this day and every day.”

“Considerate.” “Kind and loving.” “Very nice and funny.” “A listening ear.” “Serious but fun.”

Our 2026 Seniors (14, 15, and 16 year olds) described their counselors as people they “can talk to…about anything,” who give them the “freedom to be ourselves.”

They said they were “supportive,” “patient,” “mindful,” and “encouraging.”

Thank you to our Senior staff for supporting our campers, giving them room to grow, and bringing plenty of fun along the way!

In the words of our 12 and 13 year old Subseniors: “Chill.” “Sweet.” “Understanding.” “Playful.” “Always happy.” “Thoughtful.” “Caring.” “Mindful.”

This is how 2026 Subseniors described their counselors. They also noticed the little things, like being a “hug giver” who “leaves them notes,” and “puts their needs first.”

Thank you to our Subsenior staff for all the ways, big and small, that you showed campers how much you cared!
