Camp Timanous Timanous is a boys overnight summer camp for boys 8 to 15, located 22 miles from Portland, Maine. Timanous also has a strong camping trip program.

Boys return home more self-confident, independent and self-sufficient having spent a summer unplugged, having fun, learning new skills, enjoying the outdoors and making lifelong friends in a safe and nurturing environment. With 125 campers, we know each boy by name and can respond to their personal needs. Located on a beautiful lake in Southern Maine with one mile of shorefront. 90% of our staff were former Timanous campers, averaging over 10 years at camp. 26 states and 11 countries were represented in 2011. Campers choose from a variety of activities including sailing, woodshop, soccer, lacrosse, tennis, arts & crafts, basketball, team sports, riflery, archery, kayaking, climbing wall, water skiing, nature and more.

So much of what makes a summer at Timanous possible happens before the boys wake up, after they go to bed, and in places campers rarely see.

At the center of keeping Timanous looking and running as it should is Jim Poulin, usually with his beloved golden retriever Teddy not far behind. Jim’s work stretches far beyond the summer. This year alone, he completed cabin renovations, spearheaded the popular new Green and White castle, and handled countless repairs and projects that keep camp beautiful year-round. He was supported through the offseason and preseason by Pineman and Liam Prior, with early-arrival help from Will Pacinda, Trey Baum, and Elliot Ornstein. What Jim does for Timanous is almost impossible to measure, and we are enormously grateful.

In the office, Heidi, Gabby, and Ana somehow keep track of everything: calls and correspondence with families, awards, activity supplies, the camp store and packages, trip logistics, and a constant stream of questions solved before most of camp knows they existed. Timanous simply would not run the same without them.

At the Infirmary, Jess, Jen, Ruby, and Delaney cared for our boys all summer, from medications, illnesses, and scraped knees to the moments when a camper simply needed reassurance. They handled it all with patience, judgment, and kindness. It was also a big summer for Jen, who officially became Dr. Jen along the way. Ready for anything at any hour, they are a group we are incredibly fortunate to have.

And then there is the kitchen, which served more than 30,000 meals over eight weeks. Head Chef Bob, now in his 42nd summer at Timanous, led the way alongside Assistant Chef Paris and Dos Diaz, Jakub, Oscar, Cristian, Luis, and Jojo. Up early and out late, they paid extraordinary attention to the needs of our boys while making the Barn a place everyone looks forward to gathering three times a day.

A Timanous summer takes an extraordinary amount of work, much of it unseen, from people who care deeply about this place and the boys who call it home. To all of them, thank you for everything you did to make Summer 2026 possible.

That’s a wrap on Summer 2026.

If someone asks our campers what they did this summer, they could list the activities and traditions - mornings on the waterfront, games on the fields and courts, trips into the Maine wilderness, campfires, shop projects, talent shows, and all the rest. But that still wouldn’t quite explain Timanous.

What makes this place special is harder to put into words. It’s the friendships formed here. The confidence boys build here. The kindness, belonging, and brotherhood that grow here. It’s a place where boys are known, included, challenged, and valued for who they are.

A few days after Closing Day, the docks are out, the cabins are quiet, and camp has been put away for another year. But what was built here went home with every boy - the friendships, the confidence, the memories, and the knowledge that he belongs to something larger than himself.

As John reminded the boys at Banquet, when someone back home asks them what Timanous is, they don’t necessarily have to find the words to explain it. They can simply live it - by carrying home the kindness, courage, patience, and friendship they found here.

Thank you to our campers, counselors, staff, and families for an unforgettable Summer 2026.

Until we gather together again.

A perfect-weather Beach Day today! For the first time, we played the TFFL Finals right on the beach, complete with a halftime show from Jason. The Crows held their traditional sandcastle contest, and the cold Maine ocean offered the perfect way to cool off.

At Chapel yesterday, Head Counselor Juno Cowans shared a message about noticing, trust, sacrifice, and the growth that comes from pursuing something meaningful.

Juno began by asking everyone to pause, look skyward, and notice the pine trees above us. He invited campers to connect themselves to the land around them and to think about the moments at camp when trust is required, whether sailing a JY, climbing the wall, making a play in Twilight League, or relying on a friend or counselor.

Reflecting on his first arrival at Timanous in 2024, Juno spoke about immediately sensing that this place was different. Having grown up attending another summer camp, he understood the joy of unplugging and belonging, but he also came to see something deeper at Timanous: a structure built around challenge, growth, confidence, and grit.

He reminded campers that true development often happens when we are pushed beyond comfort. It happens when a counselor asks you to skipper for the first time, when you keep trying on the climbing wall, when you work toward an award without knowing whether you will earn it, or when you choose to keep going even as doubt creeps in.

Juno also reflected on the Barn renovation, noting how Timanous preserved not just a building, but the spirit and history that live within it. To him, that choice reflected something essential about camp: the willingness to sacrifice convenience in order to protect what matters most.

His closing message was for every camper who has tried hard for something this summer, whether or not the final award comes. You did not fail. You learned. You grew. You gave yourself the chance to try.

“In that, find a bit of resolution, a satisfaction, for you tried despite having no idea what the outcome might be.”

Yesterday we welcomed the Bionic Project to Timanous for an unforgettable day of education, conversation, and sport. Founded by Timanous alumnus Will Borden, Bionic works to change perceptions of physical disability and build a more inclusive world through education, storytelling, and adaptive athletics.

During morning sessions, campers learned directly from Bionic educators and athletes, exploring disability, accessibility, language, and the assumptions people often make about what others can do. In the afternoon, that learning moved onto the field as campers had the opportunity to try amputee soccer alongside the Bionic team, including two men’s national-team players and a silver medalist from the women’s national team.

We are grateful to the Bionic Project for a meaningful, eye-opening, and incredibly fun day at Timanous.
