Camp Arcadia (Casco, ME) A residential summer camp in Maine, empowering girls ages 7-17 to build their independence, embrace nature, and find community since 1916.

New experiences of happiness, friendship, growth and being at home in the out-of-doors – these are our goals for each of our 180 campers. The Maine woods, lakes, and fields stimulate an interest in the natural world. Living with others, in a residential camp, leads to abiding friendships and self-confidence. Participating in our rich, full program encourages the development of individual abilities.

We love a longstanding tradition at Arcadia, and this post captures a few of our favorites! ⁠

These photos show three of the four generations that have guided and directed Arcadia since our founding in 1916. ⁠

On the first slide is Juliette, affectionately known as Mum-Mum to her Arcadia family. She led the expansion of Arcadia’s land, developed our trips program, and established a strong activity program that we love to this day.⁠
⁠
Anne Henderson Fritts, on slide two, and her sister, Louise Henderson, became Camp Arcadia’s Directors in 1970. Together, they oversaw a period of growth in the size of the camper and counselor community. ⁠
⁠
Louise Johnson, Anne's third daughter, is pictured on the third slide with her two daughters. She became director in 2000 and has continued Arcadia's mission of fostering the healthy development of young women while encouraging an appreciation for the natural world in a rapidly changing 21st century. ⁠

These pictures were all taken on one of our favorite days of the summer, Arcadia's Birthday! The tradition began as a way to celebrate Mum-Mum's birthday and has persisted as a way to honor her visionary legacy and the generations who have carried it forward. ⁠
