We were so incredibly happy to welcome this wonderful classroom to the Dry Mills Schoolhouse this past Fall just before we closed up for the season. One of the parents put this video together (with permission from all participants) to share! If you know of a classroom that would like to visit, please reach out to us! We will be opening for the season shortly & hosting one classroom in the next couple months. We love our one room schoolhouse!

It has been a minute since we have shared. The DMS Committee has continued behind the scenes activities, but today was a special day! We were very pleased to have our 2nd class visit the Schoolhouse for a Day in the Life of a one-room schoolhouse. Our member, Michelle Guerard, worked diligently with Kathy Hewey of the Home Academy to update and expand our school day curriculum. Students worked on pre-lessons with their teacher(s) and then enjoyed a day at the Schoolhouse. They were dropped off at the IF&W building so the teachers could call them to school by ringing an old school bell. The kids in their period clothing RAN to the schoolhouse they were so excited. Two students help hoist the new cloth replica 38-star flag (1877-1890) to start the day. The day included individual lessons for various grade levels, a scavenger hunt, reading, playing with period specific toys/games, and having a lunch (only foods available in the 1800's) outside on this beautiful day. We were also very pleased that our new door was painted white & our 1800's barnboard was hung (with hooks) in the children's area prior to their visit (thank you to the Town of Gray). We LOVE our little Schoolhouse! We are wrapping up for the season, but will host more classes next year, as well as have open hours for all other visitors too. If you have a group or classroom that would be interested, reach out to us!
