Two communities. One field. A meaningful first step. ⚽️🧡
This month, we hosted a pre-leadership gathering that felt both new and important.
For the first time, pre-leaders from Los Ranchos and La Leona came together. These communities are close in distance, but relationships between them have not always come easily. That is what made this day matter.
The goal was simple. Create space for connection, build mutual respect, and help these young leaders learn how to be around one another in a healthy way. It was not perfect, and that was okay. It was real.
The afternoon centered around something familiar, soccer. It gave everyone a natural way to engage without forcing conversation. There were competitive moments, some tension, a lot of energy, and also a lot of laughter.
And in the middle of it, something began to shift.
These students started learning how to manage their emotions, how to share space, and how to keep going even when things felt uncomfortable. They were not just playing a game. They were learning how to be together.
For many of them, this kind of interaction is not normal. They are used to staying within their own communities, their own groups. Bringing them together is a step outside of that, and steps like this take time.
That is why this mattered.
It may have looked like a simple afternoon of soccer, but it was a step toward breaking down barriers, understanding one another, and opening the door for more shared experiences in the future.
At SuNica, this is part of the work too. Not just developing leaders, but shaping how they relate to others, how they handle challenges, and how they grow together.
Because transformation does not happen all at once.
It happens in moments like these.
