An encouraging message from our discipleship coordinators in El Limonal…

One of the greatest joys for us is getting to witness the growth of each young person, both inside the program and beyond it.

We’ve seen this through our pre-leaders and leaders stepping up with purpose and making the most of one of the greatest blessings in their community, the Community Center.

Young leaders like Josue, Marlon, and Armando have been creating new ways to reach others. Through things that may seem simple, like night soccer and gathering together, they are building relationships and choosing to use their time intentionally to invest in other youth.

One student shared:
“We feel blessed through the opportunity that SuNica provides, a Community Center, a safe and welcoming space where we as young people can gather, grow, and hear the Word of God.”

What has been especially meaningful is seeing that this doesn’t stop when programming ends.

These young people are choosing to spend their free time together, inviting neighbors and friends in, growing as followers of Jesus, and creating spaces where others feel welcomed.

It has been a gift to watch these young leaders grow spiritually and personally and become examples in their community!

Two communities. One field. A meaningful first step. ⚽️🧡

This month, we hosted a pre-leadership gathering that felt both new and important.

For the first time, pre-leaders from Los Ranchos and La Leona came together. These communities are close in distance, but relationships between them have not always come easily. That is what made this day matter.

The goal was simple. Create space for connection, build mutual respect, and help these young leaders learn how to be around one another in a healthy way. It was not perfect, and that was okay. It was real.

The afternoon centered around something familiar, soccer. It gave everyone a natural way to engage without forcing conversation. There were competitive moments, some tension, a lot of energy, and also a lot of laughter.

And in the middle of it, something began to shift.

These students started learning how to manage their emotions, how to share space, and how to keep going even when things felt uncomfortable. They were not just playing a game. They were learning how to be together.

For many of them, this kind of interaction is not normal. They are used to staying within their own communities, their own groups. Bringing them together is a step outside of that, and steps like this take time.

That is why this mattered.

It may have looked like a simple afternoon of soccer, but it was a step toward breaking down barriers, understanding one another, and opening the door for more shared experiences in the future.

At SuNica, this is part of the work too. Not just developing leaders, but shaping how they relate to others, how they handle challenges, and how they grow together.

Because transformation does not happen all at once.
It happens in moments like these.

A day like this doesn’t come together on its own. It takes a lot of people behind the scenes, and we truly couldn’t do it without our incredible gold sponsors. We’re so grateful for the role they play in making this event happen and the impact it creates! 🧡
