North Carolina Science Olympiad

Each year, 500+ K-12 schools representing over 12,000 students and 65 counties in North Carolina participate in NCSO activities.

North Carolina Science Olympiad (NCSO) is a NC State University program with a mission to attract and retain the pool of K-12 students entering science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) degrees and careers in North Carolina. NCSO is indebted to the thousands of volunteers that donate their time each year to making our activities a success. The challenging and self-motivating events

of NCSO align with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study as well as the National Science Education Standards. The events are designed to enhance and strengthen both science content and process skills.

📢Exciting news, NCSO family!

We are thrilled to welcome Lori Khan as our new Secondary Program Coordinator!

Lori is taking the lead on all things Division B/C, managing statewide tournament logistics, and supporting our amazing coaches and volunteers.

She joins us with 22 years of STEM teaching experience, including 9 years at Triangle Day School. Plus, she is already a Science Olympiad pro, having coached Divisions A, B, and C!

Fun fact: She holds master’s degrees in both School Administration AND Entomology. So yes, she knows how to run a school and everything about bugs! 🐜

Thanks to our generous community donors, we are breaking down financial barriers for coaches and teams. Starting August 1st, schools can apply for community-funded scholarships to cover team registrations and/or coaches conference training fees.

🎯 Priority will be given to rookie, Title 1 schools and/or teams in Tier 1 counties.
