The rollbacks are deliberate. Economic advancement programs, diversity initiatives, the policies that helped close gaps for Black communities — they’re being stripped away on purpose. And the damage doesn’t stop with individuals. It drains our families, weakens our communities, and makes the whole state poorer. 🗳️

Here’s the thing they’re counting on: that we won’t connect the dots, and we won’t show up.

In Episode 4, host Dr. Jovita Lee Miller takes on representation politics — the difference between descriptive representation (Black faces in office) and substantive representation (Black communities actually getting what they need).

She's joined by Ashlei Blue, Senior Advisor at the North Carolina Democratic Party, and L.T. McCrimmon, Senior Advisor to the Roy Cooper for U.S. Senate campaign. Together they get honest about why electing someone is the beginning, not the end; why governance is where power really lives; what accountability looks like when an official stops delivering; and why a real love of the people has to be the baseline for anyone who runs.

"That's what our elected officials are supposed to be doing — improving our communities, not enriching themselves."

When They See Us Vote continues. 🎙️

In Episode 3, "As the South Goes, So Goes the Nation," host Dr. Jovita Lee Miller is joined by Danielle Brown, National Field Co-Director at Black Voters Matter, and Anoa Changa, Senior Advisor for Strategic Communications at Advance Carolina.

The South gets treated like a laboratory — where voter suppression, Medicaid work requirements, and aggressive redistricting get tested before they go national. (North Carolina redrew its maps for 2026 before a federal mandate ever came down.) But the South is also where the resistance is rooted and led. This conversation is about both.
