Friends of the City of Raleigh Museum then.now.next. The Friends of the City of Raleigh Museum is a non-profit that supports the City of Raleigh Museum, as well as the M. T. Pope House Museum.

For more than 200 years, North Carolina’s capital city had no repository for its historical artifacts, no place to preserve its past, and no institution to educate its citizens and visitors. That all changed in 1993 when the COR Museum (formerly Raleigh City Museum) debuted its first exhibit. The COR Museum grew out of the dream of local historian Beth Crabtree, and after Beth’s death, the vision and perseverance of Mary Cates, and countless dedicated volunteers. The museum operated as a nonprofit until July 2012, when the City of Raleigh assumed operational control. While the City remains in charge of the museum, it is also supported by the nonprofit Friends of the COR Museum. The COR Museum is an integral part of the community for the services it provides to the general public. As the state capital and as its own municipality, Raleigh has a unique history that is worth recognizing and sharing.

The Dr. M. T. Pope House is hosting a special new walking tour that takes you to sites relevant to Raleigh's history pre-emancipation to much more recent times. Here is a sneak peek of some of the information we will share on this tour!

This 1.5 mile tour features a new unique route, with coffee and donuts included in your ticket price. Proceeds from this tour directly support our free programming and field trips.

Join us tonight, Thursday October 8 from 5-7 p.m. for a special evening reception and panel discussion celebrating the 50th anniversary of Raleigh’s Capital Area Greenway System.

Explore a new mini exhibit highlighting Raleigh greenways, and stay for an engaging discussion about the system’s beginnings, its growth and impact over the past five decades, and what’s ahead, featuring voices instrumental in shaping the greenway's past, present, and future.

🚲🌳🏃‍♀️ New exhibit alert! 🚲🌳🏃‍♀️

Museum staff were hard at work last week installing "The Park with a City in It: Celebrating 50 Years of the Raleigh Greenway System." On display in the museum lobby from now until October 22, visit the exhibit and explore the history of greenway planning, construction, and use while viewing artifacts that represent 50 years of greenway history.

Looking for something recreational to do? Look no further than these vintage Leisure Ledgers, furnished by the Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department. These ledgers promoted various events and projects held by Parks and Recreation, and the department continues to make Leisure Ledgers to this day! These ledgers were instrumental in promoting spaces like the Raleigh Greenway, which is the focus of our upcoming exhibition celebrating 50 years of the Raleigh Greenway System!
