We are happy to support CAPS, the career exploration program that is concluding its first year at Babcock High School. The inaugural class has students building relationships with employers in hospitals, emergency medical services, bioengineering, manufacturing, and a host of other sites. Off to a fantastic start!

We are honored to announce that the BHS CAPS Program has been awarded a $7,500 grant from the Charlotte Community Foundation! 💙💚

As the first CAPS Program in Florida, our Center for Advanced Professional Studies program launching this fall will provide students with individualized, real-world career experiences through community partnerships, mentorships, and hands-on learning connected directly to their interests and future goals.

Thank you to the Charlotte Community Foundation for investing in innovative education and the future of our students.

was the theme Tuesday as a happy group representing 35 nonprofits were awarded the Charlotte Community Foundations's spring cycle competitive grants. CCF Board member Mark Odell, Business Retention/Expansion Manager for Office, shared the group's excitement by asking them to raise their hands to show the checks they had received. The evening was the culmination of careful deliberations by two dozen Charlotte County volunteer reviewers, after which the CCF Board approved the distribution of $172,500 in unrestricted funds, more than doubling the Fall 2025 CCF nonprofit awards. Funds came from the Community Fund as well as the newer endowed fund option, in which donations starting at $5,000 are pooled for maximum impact.

The Charlotte Community Foundation (CCF) thanks Dr. Robert (Bob) Peterson for nine years of formal service, as his Board tenure came to an end with Thursday's board meeting. Bob has been a stalwart supporter of CCF since its inception. The CCF Board of Directors celebrated Bob, also a former Commodore of the Isles Yacht Club (IYC), with other IYC leaders/friends of Bob to recognize all he does for our entire community of Charlotte County!

Three important sessions coming up - looking at our history so we can better plan for our future.

The Charlotte County Community Development Department invites residents to join us for a series of Town Hall discussions with County staff focused on the history of Charlotte County and how we plan for the future.

Town hall meetings will be held at 6 p.m. on the following dates and at the following locations:

March 24, 2026

Tringali Community Center

3460 N. Access Road

Englewood, FL 34224

April 8, 2026

Charlotte County Administration Center

Commission Chambers, Room 119

18500 Murdock Circle

Port Charlotte, FL

April 21, 2026

Charlotte Harbor Event & Conference Center

75 Taylor St.

Punta Gorda, FL

During these meetings, staff will provide an overview of how the county approaches planning, growth, land use, and redevelopment decisions, as well as the role the Community Development Department plays in shaping our community. These meetings are informational and educational. County commissioners will not be in attendance, and discussions will focus on understanding the planning process rather than specific projects or neighborhood issues.

Space is limited to 150 attendees at each location, and seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

For residents who cannot attend in person, the April 8 meeting will broadcast live on CC-TV, the Charlotte County page, and the county’s YouTube channel, and will also be recorded for later viewing.

For more information, contact the Community Development Department at 941-743-1201 or visit www.CharlotteCountyFL.gov.
