Today marks the 82nd anniversary of the Normandy landings during World War II, otherwise recognized as D-Day. D-Day marked the beginning of the final push across Europe to defeat Axis forces during World War II, with more than 10,000 Allied soldiers killed or wounded in that battle alone.

Troop 2's & Pack 325's youth and leadership would like to extend a special heartfelt thank you to the men and women who served that day, and our gratitude to those who did not come home. Your legacy is not forgotten.

On May 22, 2026, The President said that Welles Crowther, a former Scout known as “The Man in the Red Bandana,” will be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Crowther was only 24 years old on September 11, 2001, when he repeatedly entered the smoke-filled stairwells of the South Tower to help guide others to safety. Survivors later remembered a young man wearing a red bandana over his face who helped lead them down. He is credited with saving as many as 18 people before losing his life when the tower collapsed.

Welles’ story is a powerful reminder of what the Scouting program is built to develop in young people: character, courage, leadership, and a lifelong commitment to helping others.

Today, his red bandana is preserved at the National September 11 Memorial and Museum as a lasting symbol of service above self.

Starting this month, we will be highlighting one of the Scout Laws and what it means to us. For April, we will be focusing on Clean. Remember, a little cleaning as you go will help the mess at the end be more manageable!

🌎 Scouts Trash the Trash Day is a global service project that brings Scouts together to clean up their communities.

🗓️ Held on the first Saturday in May, each Scout is challenged to bring a friend or family member and collect at least one kilo (about 2.2 pounds) of trash. The goal is simple: double the impact while caring for our planet.

🧭 The idea started with Scouts from Troop 1206 in Helena, Montana, who noticed that Scouting had many worldwide activity days but none focused on community cleanups.

🤝 Today, Scouts Trash the Trash Day has grown into an international Messengers of Peace project where Scouts around the world work together to make their neighborhoods cleaner while showing others what Scouting is all about.

♻️ It is more than picking up trash. It is service, leadership, and an opportunity to invite others to experience Scouting.
