The conversations are already happening at the new Word is Bond HQ. 💻📲

As we settle into our new home in Lower Albina, we’re creating more space for young Black men to learn, lead, explore new ideas, and have conversations about the issues shaping their future.

This week, our youth leaders and board members sat down to talk about AI, how it’s being used, and what it could mean for the next generation.

Our Board Member Yoseph Ukbazghi is a tech engineer and leader in the field of AI. He hosts an annual tech summit, Silicon Forest Tech Summit, which brings thousands of people from Portland’s tech community together each year.

Having Yoseph at our new HQ, teaching our ambassadors how to build with AI, is helping empower our young men for their futures.

This is what our new space is all about — creating opportunities for young people to ask questions, share their perspectives, and be part of the conversations that shape the future.

The move is just the beginning. We’re just getting started. 👑

BIG shoutout to our Ambassador Max for pulling up to the new HQ the day before he leaves to study abroad in Japan!

Word is Bond has partnered with the American Red Cross to open our first official headquarters.

We’re inviting all our family and friends in for a visit to see our space and talk about our work for a series that we’re calling “Who’s @ the NEW HQ?”

Max is a junior at Tulane University in New Orleans studying Legal Studies in Business. Beyond the classroom plays Ultimate Frisbee and enjoys hanging with friends.

Did you know Word is Bond has over 20 in college across the United States?

Max is one of three students from Tulane University selected to study abroad at Hitotsubashi University in Kunitachi, Japan.

Gratitude & appreciation to Grace for stopping by for a visit. Word is Bond has partnered with the American Red Cross to open our first official headquarters.

We’re inviting all our family and friends in for a visit to see our space and talk about our work for a series that we’re calling “Who’s @ the NEW HQ?”

Grace is a field Representative for the U.S. Senator Ron Wyden. She has helped coordinate Word is Bond leadership activities with Senator Wyden in both Portland and Washington DC during our annual Civic Leadership Forum.

Grace is a Portland native, runner, community advocate, and lover of healthy food outside of her work to serve constituents across the Portland region & beyond.

Stay tuned for the next collaboration between Word is Bind & Senator Wyden’s office coming soon.

Karol is the Senior Director, Sport & Society, Social & Community Impact, Nike. With the support of Karole, Word is Bond has received the support of Nike since 2020.

Karol has a vision of a more inclusive and equitable world, that celebrates each person’s contributions and identities. she has served on the boards of both the Cascade AIDS Project and the Q Center.

Elijah Crawford is a rising star in the halls of power in Portland. At just 26 years old he is the Chief of Staff for Portland City Council Woman Loretta Smith.

Back in high school, Elijah joined Word is Bond programing through our partnership with Black Male Achievement. It’s a full circle moment to see him now inspiring the next generation of leaders. 🌟

We are grateful for Nichole for stopping by the New HQ. Word is Bond has partnered with the American Red Cross to open our first official headquarters. Nichole is a Master’s Student at Lewis and Clark College studying mental health. In addition she is an entrepreneur and yoga instructor. The woman is truly a powerhouse. 🧘🏽‍♀️

Thank you Mayor Wilson for stopping by for a visit. Word is Bond has partnered with the American Red Cross to open our first official headquarters. Before taking office in 2025, Keith Wilson served on the Word is Bond Board of Directors for four years. Every summer he takes our ambassadors camping at Lost Lake.

Our ambassadors will be visiting City Council soon. And who knows, one day, one of them just might be Mayor.

Shoutout to our Board Member, Brett Brown, for visiting us at our new HQ. Word is Bond has partnered with the American Red Cross to open our first official headquarters. Brett is the Director of Immersive Design at Nike. In his free time he likes to do photography and boxing.

2026 Word is Bond Community Showcase.

An evening of celebration of our community ambassadors and all of their hard work in Portland, Washington D.C. and Ghana.

Over 25 young men participated in dynamic leadership programing with us this summer. Thank you to all of our family, friends, and supporters who came out to celebrate Black boy joy.

One of Word is Bond’s four pillars of our Comprehensive Leadership Framework is Wellness.

Black Men’s Wellness is one of the amazing organizations we partner with here in Portland. Their mission is to empower Black men and boys to define wellness on their own terms and provide access to the tools needed to thrive. Go check out their work.
