There was an organized cleanup at recently, & SPS was there. Highlight’s included 4 truckloads of trash, lots of help from the skate community, & some concrete repairs.

DIY projects take the entire community to thrive & survive, & this one is no different.

Special thanks to for pushing the idea, & everyone who came out - tag yourself if you were there!

Great turnout for the 1st public design meeting for the Steel Bridge Skatepark! Our friends with did a great job of engagement with the community, , , & all had folks on site taking questions, presenting an opportunity for people to have their voices heard.

Projects like this take a long time, & events like these allow the community to give feedback on what the park should look like. Currently on schedule for completion in 2029, with an extra expected lifespan of 30+ years

Skaters for Portland Skateparks has been pushing for the Steel Bridge skatepark for 25 years, & was literally the reason our organization was founded. We have fortunate enough to contribute to the original SPLAT committee, & the 19 park plan (several key contributors currently serve on our board).

This Sunday (2/15) is the next milestone in the process, as is hosting , , & for the 1st public design meeting. Shoutout to & , amongst others for also pushing this project.

Projects like this generally take years, in this case over a quarter century. Take the opportunity to make your voice heard

is dead, long live

is moving forward on replacing the DIY spot with an officially sanctioned version. Of course, there’s lots of opinions on this project.

SPS stands behind local DIY efforts, & we try to be supportive when we can. However, our primary focus is pushing to deliver equitable skate terrain, accessible to all.

We’ve never seen a perfect skatepark, therefore it’s our responsibility to push each project in the right direction. PP&R has a difficult task at hand, & it’s up to us to do a better job in assisting to achieve new skate opportunities.
