The Iris Network The Iris Network recognizes the diverse aspirations and abilities of people who are visually impaired or blind.

The Iris Network is a 501 (c) (3) community-based, state-wide, organization dedicated to helping people with vision impairment or blindness attain independence and community integration. It is the vision of The Iris Network to build a world where no person is limited by visual impairment or blindness and everyone is an advocate for eye health and the needs of people who are visually impaired or blind. Our services are based on respect for each individual’s right to self-direction through informed choices. We believe that the education and integration of all individuals will result in a stronger society.

And what a week it was! We are fortunate to have so many who support our agency, and it shows in the photos here. First up, we had our White Cane Awareness Day in Congress Square Park, thanks to Friends of Congress Square Parkof Congress Square Park for giving us the space and to Maine Dept of Labor Division for the Blind and Visually Impaired and Catholic Charities Maine for helping us with information and demonstrations for all.

Next was our Dining in the Dark fundraiser at Bruno's Restaurant and Tavern! Great night for a great cause, thank you to all who came to experience eating a meal with vision loss, bidding on items at the Silent Auction, and to our corporate sponsors. A great evening of fun in support of our programs and services.

The Iris Network is pleased to announce Pattie Gallant has joined our Board of Directors.

Pattie grew up in Westbrook and Denmark, and then spent all of her adult years in Greater Portland and currently lives in Gorham. She loves Maine so much that she now helps others move to this beautiful state as new families begin, as they grow and when they are in search of seasonal homes.

Having served in executive leadership roles before becoming a realtor full-time, Pattie works with the utmost professionalism, compassion, and integrity with each of her clients and also on the non-profit boards she has enjoyed serving on.

We are thrilled to have Dr. Echo Dixon, DSW, LCSW join our Board of Directors!

Dr. Dixon is a seasoned therapist and assistant professor in the University of Southern Maine’s social work department. With a career in social work beginning in 1994, Dr. Dixon brings over three decades of experience to both clinical and academic settings. Since 1999, Dr. Dixon has been dedicated to working within Maine’s Deaf Community, leveraging fluency in American Sign Language to provide accessible, culturally competent care and advocacy. As a therapist since 2011, Dr. Dixon continues to integrate a deep commitment to social justice, inclusion, and evidence-based practice into both teaching and direct practice, preparing the next generation of social workers to serve diverse communities with compassion and expertise.
