The Iris Network is a 501 (c) (3) community-based, state-wide, organization dedicated to helping people with vision impairment or blindness attain independence and community integration. It is the vision of The Iris Network to build a world where no person is limited by visual impairment or blindness and everyone is an advocate for eye health and the needs of people who are visually impaired or bl

ind. Our services are based on respect for each individual’s right to self-direction through informed choices. We believe that the education and integration of all individuals will result in a stronger society.

We are thrilled to have Dr. Echo Dixon, DSW, LCSW join our Board of Directors!

Dr. Dixon is a seasoned therapist and assistant professor in the University of Southern Maine’s social work department. With a career in social work beginning in 1994, Dr. Dixon brings over three decades of experience to both clinical and academic settings. Since 1999, Dr. Dixon has been dedicated to working within Maine’s Deaf Community, leveraging fluency in American Sign Language to provide accessible, culturally competent care and advocacy. As a therapist since 2011, Dr. Dixon continues to integrate a deep commitment to social justice, inclusion, and evidence-based practice into both teaching and direct practice, preparing the next generation of social workers to serve diverse communities with compassion and expertise.

The Iris Network recently participated as a vendor in the Living Well, Aging Well Expo at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. Samantha and Ernie had a table full of devices and technology including a Large print calendars, large print bingo cards, large print keyboards, large print checks, signature/check writing/envelope addressing/page writing guides, large print address books, three sizes of large print check registers, large print playing cards, Smartlux Digital Magnifier, Visolux HD Digital Magnifier, 3X stand magnifiers, multi temperature table lamps, a Talking clock, a large print landline telephone, a large print portable landline telephone, Max TV glasses, a talking large print watch, black/white cutting boards, and various vision condition simulators. They were able to demonstrate these devices to older adults who may be experiencing vision loss. Helping individuals in Maine who need resources is what we do best!
