Juneteenth marks a pivotal moment in American history, but its legacy lives on through the stories, experiences and traditions of those who honor it today.

At Legacy Health, we believe listening to and learning from the communities we serve is an important part of building connection and understanding.

What began as a photo essay featuring the voices and experiences of Legacy employees has grown to include perspectives from our broader community. This year, we invited Black community members, artists and local businesses to share what Juneteenth means to them through their own words, stories and experiences.

We're excited to officially welcome Susan Huang, MD, MBA as Legacy Health's new President and CEO.

As Susan begins her first week, she'll be spending time across our system meeting physicians, nurses, leaders and staff, visiting our hospitals and listening to and learning from our teams who ensure Legacy is Here for Good.

We're looking forward to introducing her to the teams and moments that define Legacy and make it the best place to give and receive care.

Welcome to Legacy, Susan!

Everyone has their own reason for volunteering. For some, it's a way to give back. For others, it's a chance to stay connected, support their community or make a difference in someone's day.

Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center volunteers recently reflected on what inspired them to volunteer. Their reflections offer a glimpse into the meaningful role volunteers play in supporting patients, visitors and care teams throughout the hospital.

We're grateful for the many volunteers who give their time and compassion in service to our community.

The new Legacy Oregon Burn Center has officially opened its doors at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, marking an exciting milestone for our region.

To celebrate the occasion, we welcomed staff, current and former patients, community members, donors and partners to tour the new facility and see firsthand how this space was designed to support healing, recovery and specialized burn care.

For more than 50 years, the Oregon Burn Center has provided lifesaving care across Oregon, Southwest Washington and the Pacific Northwest. This new facility represents a significant investment in the future of specialized burn care, made possible in part through more than $2 million in philanthropic support from our community.

The new 33,000-square-foot facility builds on that legacy with 16 adaptable patient suites, advanced treatment spaces, a rooftop healing garden and dedicated areas for pediatric patients and families.

We thank everyone who celebrated this important milestone with us and everyone whose support brought this vision to life.

Together, we're ensuring specialized burn care remains accessible in our region.

During Stroke Awareness Month, Legacy Health’s stroke program manager, Adrienne Duke, is sharing what people should know about stroke risk factors, warning signs, and why rapid action, including calling 911, can significantly impact outcomes.

Remember BE FAST:

Every day, we hear from patients about their experience at Legacy Health.

And more often than not, they talk about their nurse.

As we celebrate National Nurses Week (May 6–12), we’re recognizing the impact nurses have on the people they care for every day. ❤️

Maybe it was someone who helped you feel more prepared, answered your questions or simply treated you with kindness during a difficult moment.

Hearing from patients can mean more than you might think.

We are pleased to announce that Legacy and Regence have reached agreement on a new contract. This means all Legacy providers and facilities will remain in-network for Regence and other BlueCross BlueShield members.

We recognize the stress and uncertainty many of our patients experienced during the negotiation process. We are truly thankful that we can continue to be here to serve our patients when they need us.

Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is paving NW 23rd Avenue from NW Northrup to Vaughn starting May 4. Work will take place Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

• May 4–7: Work between NW Vaughn and Quimby
• May 11–14: Work between NW Quimby and Northrup

Sidewalk access will remain open during paving.

After this phase, PBOT plans to improve the section from NW Lovejoy to Northrup, including curb ramp upgrades at Lovejoy and Marshall this summer, followed by repaving in the fall.

During curb ramp construction, sidewalk access near NW 23rd and Lovejoy will be limited. This work is expected to begin no earlier than the week of May 18 and may be subject to change.
