After a heated back-and-forth between Asante and a state agency, the health system has abandoned its pursuit of buying the struggling Surgery Center of Southern Oregon. The center is now expected to close by June 30, marking another bump in the road for health care in southern Oregon and Asante.

The Surgery Center of Southern Oregon, which as of last fall employed 85 employees, is closing by June 30. The center had been losing money and patients following the launch of a competing surgery center.
