ORTOP will be at PNSQC Innovation Day this Sunday, October 11 from 1-5:30pm. This gathering at Portland's University Place Hotel brings together students, educators, parents, and community members to explore emerging technologies through student projects, robotics demonstrations, and educational seminars. By combining student innovation with community learning, the event creates an environment where attendees can interact with each other on topics such as artificial intelligence, robotics, automation, and other technologies shaping our future. Innovation Day immediately precedes the PNSQC Software Quality conference.

Such a great day at Girls Gen! Celebrating the young women of our FRC teams while welcoming younger robotics learners to a brand new, grant-funded robotics camp today! So much fun for all. Best part may be asking our campers what they learned: “I learned I’m good at robotics.” Hooray and thank you to our sponsors who make awesome events like these possible!

WARNING: Do not look at our page tomorrow if you don’t like seeing pictures of hundreds of girls and young women having fun with robots!

Tomorrow is Girls Gen, our annual FRC event with a couple dozen teams competing — with girls taking all the key roles throughout the event.

We also are hosting more than 50 girls in grades 5-12 at the same time, most completely new to robotics. They will build and program with SPIKE Prime kits, drive FTC bots, and watch some FRC matches.

To say we are excited is an understatement! Come see for yourself at Wilsonville HS on Saturday. The FRC event is free and open to the public.

After a great day of robotics learning and sharing, a cold popsicle sure does hit the spot! We served over 300 of them today! Big thanks to everyone who presented, attended and volunteered for FIRSTfest today!

What a great turnout for 2026 FIRSTfare! We are so happy to see team members and coaches from around the state, connecting, learning, and sharing with each other. And we are grateful to our hosts at PSU’s Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science. Thank you for so graciously sharing your beautiful space with Oregon’s robotics community!

FIRST is starting to share more information about the future of FLL and the best news is that there WILL be a 2027-28 season. The second-best news is that it's going to look a lot like seasons past. Please check out the link below to watch a short video from HQ about what's going on behind the scenes and what we can expect for grades 3-8 robotics next season!

TL;DR: Don't throw out your game tables, because you're going to want them next year for your grades 3-8 teams.

If you know any Bend-area students in grades 4-8, they are invited to a FREE robotics camp on Sept. 26 at Cascades Academy. No robotics experience is required and all materials -- including a free t-shirt and snacks! -- will be provided. This is a great introduction to FIRST Robotics, and students with some experience will be able to dig a little deeper and strengthen their skills. Hope to see you there!
