Mental health care IS community care.

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, we’re reminded that caring for ourselves and one another extends far beyond a single month. 💛

In this video, our incredible Mental Health Counseling Intern, Lindsay, shares why mental health care and well-being matter so deeply — and why creating spaces for healing, connection, and support can change lives.

Wherever you are in your journey, you don’t have to navigate it alone. Whether you’re taking your first step, returning to care, or simply exploring what support could look like, we’re here.

Your mental health matters. Your story matters. And support is closer than you think.

If you’ve been thinking about starting your mental health journey, visit our website or give us a call: 503-465-2749. We’d be honored to walk alongside you. ✨

People don’t fail systems. Systems fail people.

So what happens when someone finally has support navigating them?

In this episode of Change Talk, Anthony shares how Bridges to Change helps people find more than resources — we help people find pathways forward.

Because when you’re navigating housing, recovery, healthcare, employment, or basic needs, knowing where to start can feel impossible.

This conversation is about what happens when support becomes personal, navigation becomes possible, and people are met where they are.

🎧 This is more than a conversation about services. It’s a conversation about what real community support looks like.

Today, we’re excited to continue to celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month by highlighting our incredible Mental Health Interns! Melissa, one of our Masters of Social Work interns in Clackamas County, shares what inspires her to do this work:

“To me, mental health awareness is about creating safe spaces where people can feel seen, supported, and reminded that their experiences and challenges do not have to be faced alone.

Mental health is layered and is something that can be shaped and influenced by our systems as well as the environments around us. I am continuously inspired by the courage and resilience of those that I am supporting, as they are working through their individual healing, growth, and self-discovery journeys, within difficult-to-navigate systems.

Mental healthcare is so important. Awareness of and access to equitable mental health support can be a powerful step to fostering long lasting change within ourselves and our communities.”

Thank you, Melissa, for being the change we want to see! ✨💛

“I have nowhere to go…”

We receive calls like this every day at Bridges to Change from women across our community. Those are words no one should ever have to say. And yet, we continue to receive calls from women searching for safety, stability, and a chance to heal.

Today, we are honored to share that we are opening a new women’s home — a space built with compassion, community, and hope. This home will provide 7 beds of supportive housing for women engaged in our treatment services, offering 4–6 months of stability, connection, and care during a critical time in their recovery journey. This project has no funding or contract…just Bridges to Change living our mission.

Last week, our teams came together to prepare the home with so much heart — making beds, sourcing supplies for each woman, and creating spaces that feel welcoming and dignified. We were also deeply moved by the generosity of our board members, who donated furniture and bedding to help turn this house into a home.

Every blanket placed, every bed assembled, and every donated item carries a message: you matter, you are worthy of care, and you do not have to walk this path alone.

This is more than housing. It is a fresh start. Please help us continue providing this care by donating to our mission, so everyone has a place to go. 💛✨

We don’t do this work alone—and we never could. 💛
To our incredible community partners: thank you for standing beside us, believing in this mission, and helping make real, lasting change possible.

Because of you, we’re able to show up every day to support individuals and families on their journey home. This impact belongs to all of us.

As we continue to acknowledge and celebrate Mental Health Awareness month, we’re proud to hear from our Chief Clinical Officer, Dr. Danielle Walker, DSW, LCSW.

Dr. Walker shares her passion for behavioral health services, her ‘why’ as a leader, and what keeps her going…even when things are difficult.

Thank you to our leaders, providers, and support staff. Everyday the work you do makes a difference, saves lives, and makes lasting change in our community. ✨💛

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re celebrating the people helping create spaces of healing, belonging, and connection in our community. ✨

In today’s video, our incredible MSW Clinical Intern, Aftyn, shares what inspires them about mental healthcare and the importance of creating affirming spaces for all people seeking support.

During their internship, Aftyn launched an LGBTQ+ mental health group — expanding opportunities for connection, care, and community support for individuals who too often face barriers to safe and affirming mental health services.

We are grateful for interns, providers, and advocates like Aftyn who are helping build a more compassionate and inclusive future for mental healthcare. ✨💛

Some stories remind us of HOW reentry support works and WHY this work matters so much.

At our Welcome Home Banquet, we were honored to hear from Bridges to Change alumni speaker Garrett Fields, who shared his story with honesty, courage, and hope.

Changing cycles of addiction and incarceration takes motivation, willingness, and determination. But many people enter recovery carrying fear, shame, and self-doubt. Having someone believe in you, walk beside you, and keep showing up until you can begin to believe in yourself can make all the difference.

Garrett’s story was a powerful reminder that recovery and reentry are not paths people should have to walk alone. They are built through connection, support, accountability, and community.

Thank you, Garrett, for sharing your story and for reminding us what is possible when people are given the chance, support, and care they deserve. 💛✨

The first day home matters.

When Ryan came home, he was met by his recovery mentor, Brandon, who was there to welcome him with support, encouragement, and a plan for what came next.
That same day, Brandon drove Ryan to Hood River Cherries to apply for work — and Ryan got the job.

That is what reentry support can look like in real time: someone showing up on day one, helping navigate the next step, making introductions, removing barriers, and reminding someone that they do not have to rebuild alone.
Brandon also helped Ryan connect with our local community partners at a Columbia Gorge nonprofit with a powerful mission: “Donate a Bike—Change a Life.”

Anson’s Bike Buddies began with a young person recognizing that children in his community did not all have access to a bicycle. With the support of his parents and mentor, that idea grew into a nonprofit that collects used bicycles, repairs them, reuses parts when needed, and donates bikes back into the community.
Their work is rooted in something simple and meaningful: access, mobility, joy, and connection.
For people reentering the community, partnerships like this matter. A bike can mean transportation to work, access to appointments, connection to community, and a greater sense of independence.

Ryan’s story is a reminder that second chances are built through action — one ride, one job application, one community connection, and one person willing to walk alongside someone as they come home.
