Join us for our new Our first Club Engagement Lunch happening next week: Wednesday, Aug. 19.

We're going to talk about recruitment ideas and discuss how we can grow the Club. We will also discuss a membership vetting process that will include ways for current Club members to voice support or express concerns about applicants.

And you know what to do: head over to our calendar and register! And come prepared to discuss your ideas! Membership Chair Jennifer Davis and Committee Member David Franklin will lead the discussion and share what they have been developing for recruitment and vetting.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Chief Jason Lando of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police as the Rotary Club of Pittsburgh's featured speaker.

Chief Lando shared recent successes, including a decrease in homicides, and discussed the Bureau's continued focus on officer wellness, community engagement, as well as recruitment and professional development. Members also learned about initiatives such as youth engagement programs, co-response teams, leadership development, and the Bureau's commitment to supporting the well-being of its officers. He also spoke about the importance of growing the Bureau from its current staffing of approximately 800 officers to a goal of 1,000 officers to better serve the City of Pittsburgh.

The presentation sparked thoughtful conversation about the challenges and opportunities facing law enforcement today and the importance of building strong partnerships throughout our community.

Thank you, Chief Lando, for sharing your insights, answering members' questions, and providing an informative update on the work of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police. We appreciate your leadership and your commitment to our community.

The Rotary Club of Pittsburgh is looking forward to welcoming Pittsburgh Police Chief Jason Lando as our guest speaker at our first August luncheon. Chief Lando will discuss the challenges, progress, and partnerships that are shaping a safer downtown Pittsburgh.

Appointed Chief of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police in January 2026, Chief Lando previously served more than 21 years with the Bureau, including seven years as a Commander. Throughout his career, he has championed initiatives that strengthen relationships between police officers and the communities they serve, while helping reduce violent crime. He also served as a lead trainer for the National Initiative for Building Community Trust & Justice, training more than 1,000 officers in the principles of Procedural Justice.

As Rotarians, we are committed to strengthening our communities through service and collaboration. We hope you'll join us for this important conversation about public safety, leadership, and the future of downtown Pittsburgh.

Every generation of Rotarians has a choice: to simply maintain what was handed to them, or to leave it stronger for those who follow.

As we begin a new Rotary year, the Rotary Club of Pittsburgh is embracing the challenge to build on the foundation laid by generations of leaders before us. We'll strengthen our Club through deeper engagement, innovative ideas, expanded service, and a commitment to developing tomorrow's leaders.

During her first lunch today, Club President Jessica R. Towhey spoke about boosting engagement, providing transparency, and making it easier for Members to get involved with us. Rotary has never been just about meetings or projects; it’s also about people – the lives we improve, the friendships we build, and the examples we set.

We’re going to provide more transparency to our members. Our lunch programming will feature monthly ways for us to engage with each in a more casual setting where we can talk, network, learn about each other, discuss Rotary International and District initiatives, and also incorporate some micro-service projects to keep us focused on the acts of kindness that can mean the world to someone who is struggling.

Our recruiting efforts are called “Discover Rotary.” Jessica challenged us to re-Discover Rotary and think back to when we looked around the Club and said, “These are my people.”

The future isn't something that happens to us. It's something we build together.

Here's to another year of creating lasting impact, strengthening our Club, and leaving an even stronger Rotary for the next generation.

We recently celebrated Immediate Past President Eric Moye at our annual President's Wine Dinner while also recognizing the tremendous impact of some of our great Members! Thank you to everyone who works hard and volunteers their time to make our Club better! And a HUGE thank you to Eric Moye for his steadfast leadership in strengthening the Rotary Club of Pittsburgh.

That's the theme guiding the Rotary Club of Pittsburgh as we begin the 2026–2027 Rotary year.

As one of Rotary's oldest clubs, the Rotary Club of Pittsburgh has spent more than 100 years bringing together people who are passionate about strengthening our community through service, fellowship, and civic engagement. This year, we'll build on that legacy by creating lasting impact: growing our membership, expanding our service, fostering meaningful connections, and ensuring our Club continues to thrive for generations to come.

Today, we welcome Jessica Towhey as Club President. Jessica joined the Club just three years ago seeking professional connections, but quickly found something much more meaningful — a community of leaders committed to Service Above Self.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to Immediate Past President Eric Moye for his outstanding leadership over the past year. His dedication has positioned the Club for an exciting future.

Congratulations as well to our incoming officers, Board of Directors, and committee chairs. We look forward to all we'll accomplish together in the year ahead.

Yup, that’s right - runner up for Large Club of the Year and 1st place for Public Image & Community Engagement! This weekend’s District 7305 Conference had a bit of everything - exchanging ideas, seeing friends, learning new dance moves, checking out the “celebrities,” and some business. Most of all, the weekend celebrated Rotary and the people who choose to make the world a better place.
