The Community Leadership Course for Veterans XIII cohort discovered at their latest session how the leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills they developed through military service can translate into meaningful civic leadership. Conversations with local government leaders and elected officials helped participants gain insight into the region’s unique system of local government and the many opportunities to serve their communities through public service.

The Community Leadership Course for Veterans XIII cohort recently gained insight into the dynamic nonprofit and foundation landscape across Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Phil Koch, LP ###IV, YALP V - The Pittsburgh Foundation provided an overview of the region's current and emerging community needs and the critical role nonprofits and foundations play in addressing them. Pete Mendes, LP XXIV - Mendes Consulting and LPInc. Board Member, shared practical knowledge about nonprofit finances, helping participants better understand the financial considerations of nonprofit board service.

Leadership Pittsburgh Inc. attended the Association of Leadership Programs National Conference in Omaha, Nebraska. The annual gathering convenes community leadership professionals from across the country to share ideas, learn from one another, and discover innovative strategies that enhance programming and create stronger, more connected communities.

Beyond conference programming, the experience offered opportunities to explore Omaha’s revitalized riverfront, learn about the city’s thriving economy, and visit the newly opened Kiewit Luminarium.

Thank you to the Greater Omaha Chamber for hosting the ALP National Conference this year and to the Association of Leadership Programs for creating a space for community leadership professionals to connect, collaborate, and grow!

A cohort of nine leaders from the Pittsburgh region recently participated in the Harvard Business School Young American Leaders Program (YALP).

YALP convened groups of leaders from fourteen cities for a four-day immersive experience. The program aims to develop leaders who understand cross-sector collaborations for shared prosperity and work across traditional boundaries to help their communities thrive. Through presentations from Bill Flanagan - Allegheny Conference on Community Development and Tyler Laughlin - Allegheny County Airport Authority, the cohort learned how collaboration across sectors and generations has driven regional progress.
