Thank you to everyone who showed up to our 6th annual Day of Remembrance!

Yall really came through and helped us make this event feel special. Thank you to and for providing us with the space and other provisions, the house and food were beautiful!

Thank you to our volunteers and members for showing up early and staying late to help create vibe and help us pack it up!

Thank you to Denice Garcia for showing up and speaking her truth. She’s the mother of James Garcia who was killed by Phoenix PD in 2020. She has a petition going to aim for accountability for James death (check our page!)

There’s so many pictures we have, it was hard to choose just 20 for the slide, we’ll try get more out to the performers and vendors. On that note thank you to our vendors and performers, we hope to have yall again! Please tag who we missed!

Thank you to:

‼️Urgent ‼️ Calling on the community to spread the word and keep an eye out for Nazaiah Caldwell, a local 15 year old who has been missing since May 16th.

🚨 We’re sharing because the family does not feel that the police are putting appropriate effort into this case. And that’s a problem because the family believes that Nazaiah is not in a safe situation, and because of the information they have, feel she should be classified as endangered.

Ok this is the last stretch and last day of posting for Day of Remembrance because it’s tomorrow!

So we wanted to do a vendor highlight for Mary Hope Lee . Mary Hope Lee is a Phoenix artist and recently did a collage workshop at the Black River House which is where this year’s Day of Remembrance will be held.

They were a vendor last year and we encourage you all to check out their art!

Trying something a little different with the visuals but we want to emphasize that the altar will be a focal point for our 6th annual Day of Remembrance this Saturday. 🕯️🕯️

We’re coming together in remembrance of those whose lives have been lost to state violence and setting an altar is one of the many ways to do that. An altar sounds somber but it doesn’t have to be, we’re coming together in unity, joy in resistance and the strength to move forward together.

If you’re coming to Day of Remembrance, bring something small to place on the altar (flowers, small trinkets, small plushies, keys, etc).

Day of Remembrance is this Saturday at 4pm
Location: Black River House 6828 s. Central Ave

We highlighted our performers so far but let’s introduce our DJ for the night ! They’ll be setting the musical tone that will let us feel our bodies and release on a Saturday night. They’re known for a blend of sounds and what I would say is a very pleasant demeanor. They set the tone for last years Day of Remembrance so come check them out this time, Saturday at 4pm
