A 14-year-old Upper Darby youth has been charged and jailed in the gunshot death of a 14-year-old girl on Springton Road in the township.

Nazim Lar, of the first block of Powell Lane, was charged with third-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter and related offenses and denied bail after arraignment Friday night by District Judge David R. Griffin.

The arraignment paperwork states that he was taken to the George W. Hill Correctional Facility.

He was charged in the death Thursday of the girl, who suffered a gunshot wound to the forehead, and was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, but lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful.

Police say one witness in the house reported that after they heard the gunshot, Lar exclaimed, โ€œOh my God, I just killed her!โ€

The police affidavit stated that Lar and at least one other person knew that the victimโ€™s mother kept a handgun in the house, and they retrieved it. The group had a half day of school and all walked to the victimโ€™s house. The victim texted her mother to let the mother know that she was home.

The victimโ€™s name was not provided by police.

Police gave this account:

Officers responded to the home in the 100 block of Springton Road at 1:40 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, after a person in the house, a witness, called to report he heard a shot and a female scream. That witness said two teens had run from the house.

Patrol officers observed that the rear door of the residence was wide open and they went in โ€œand cleared the residence.โ€

One of the officers found the victim, a Black female, in the rear, second-floor bedroom. She was on the bed on her back, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

There was also a pink handgun with a black slide on the bed to the left of the victim. She was pronounced dead at 2:28 p.m. at the hospital.

The victimโ€™s mother was transported to the hospital.

Through investigation, police identified three subjects who fled from the rear of the residence.

A 45-year-old woman was killed in a brutal attack in North Philadelphia early Sunday morning.

Police said the victim, identified as Keisha Farlow, was beaten with a brick and stomped in an alleyway on North 24th Street around 2 a.m. Sunday.

Surveillance video obtained as part of the investigation shows a man throwing the woman to the ground in the alley. Due to the graphic nature of the footage, Action News is not showing the most violent portions. It reveals how the attacker repeatedly struck Farlow in the head with a brick, before stomping on her face and chest.

Police said they are searching for the man seen in the video, as well as another man who was allegedly involved in the attack. After the assault, investigators said, the suspects left the scene with Farlow's purse. The purse was later recovered a few blocks away, emptied of its contents.

Neighbors and community members expressed outrage and disbelief over the killing, describing Farlow as a person who kept to herself and was friendly.

"We are human beings at the end of the day. I do something wrong to you, we don't talk. But there are demons out here," said Darnel Henry of North Philadelphia.

Others said they could not understand how someone could carry out such a violent act against someone they viewed as harmless.

"She didn't cause no problems with nobody. She did what she did; that was how she lived. But she was at peace with it. But for her to be dead in that alleyway, nobody should go out like that," Henry added.

Alexia Zia, also of North Philadelphia, said the community is hoping for justice.

"I hope whoever did it, I hope that justice will be brought because she didn't seem to bother anybody in this community, and I just don't understand it," Zia said.

Farlow is survived by four children, including an 11-month-old baby.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case to contact 215-686-TIPS.
