We're already reminiscing about our Chesapeake voyage. Some of the moments that happen underway are unlike anything else you can find on land, especially with an international fleet of Tallships gathered all around you.

Would you like to see what we mean? There are still some sail dates upcoming this summer. To find out more, come to one of our Saturday workdays (9:00am - 5:00pm) - we have an open call for volunteers, no experience required. Gazela is docked below the yacht Ben Franklin, at Penn's Landing near Independence Blue Cross RiverRink.

To be part of our crew, you must have a current membership, complete some trainings, and have logged volunteer hours including working some of our events.

On August 13, step aboard our historic ship to enjoy a pop-up event in collaboration with Philadelphia Brewing Co.! Ticket includes your first drink free. :)

In addition to Philadelphia Brewing Co. beer offerings, there will also be Commonwealth Ciders and Phizzie Hard Seltzers. If you can't make our August date, we'll also host this event Thurs September 10, and Thurs October 8. Each has a rain date of the following Thursday.

Gazela is back home at Penn's Landing, and we look forward to the upcoming season of workdays, events, and skill-building! Thanks to all guests and crew who showed up for our sold-out 4th of July celebration.

Even while underway in the Chesapeake, maintenance work didn't stop. Our crew was able to make and finish a boom, as well as complete some repairs to a railing, among countless other tasks.

Keeping an historic 125-year-old wooden vessel in good health and capable of long voyages is no small feat. Major thanks to the volunteers, crew, donors, and sponsors who have contributed so much towards helping keep this dream afloat!

As a non-profit organization mostly powered by volunteer commitment, we feel lucky for the resources we have - whether that be shipwrighting expertise, generous donors, or even just people who are interested enough to step aboard and learn more with a curiosity around how to get more involved - we're grateful for the effort our growing community has shown!

Step aboard tomorrow at Penn's Landing for July 4th celebrations with an exclusive dockside view of fireworks in honor of America's 250th birthday! Tickets are $10 - you can purchase them on our events page (link in bio) or upon arrival. After an unforgettable voyage around the Chesapeake, we're excited to be back in hometown Philadelphia for this once-in-a-lifetime occasion.

We welcome you aboard from 7:30pm - 10:30pm for a BYOB event, with delicious food vendors nearby. Fireworks begin around 9:30pm. We'll be slightly North of our usual docking position, closer to Independence Blue Cross RiverRink, just below the yacht Ben Franklin.

Since Gazela is a historic and functional wooden ship, please note some important details for your visit below:

As a dockside event, please note that we will not be leaving the dock with non-crew passengers.

Access to the ship requires use of a gangway, which includes stairs.

This event is BYOB, with plenty of delicious food vendors nearby. We will not be vending alcohol or food.

Please do not sit on the railings - always keep three points of contact for the boat. Closed toed shoes are recommended. Certain areas of the ship are cordoned off - please respect these roped-off areas.

There are toilets below deck, which require the use of stairs to access.

Gazela is officially on her way back to Philadelphia after a memorable finale in Baltimore, welcoming no fewer than 6,855 guests on board for deck tours, and an unforgettable flag exchange and private tours with NRP Sagres.

On Sunday, we had the honor of welcoming aboard the Commandante and some officers of NRP Sagres, a gorgeous three-masted barque, and the primary sail training ship for the Portuguese Navy that was docked alongside us in Baltimore.

They graced us with a flag exchange ceremony, in which we were presented with a Portuguese flag, gave them the flag of Philadelphia, and exchanged gifts. Then we showed them around Gazela, before being invited for a private tour of their incredibly impressive vessel later in the evening. The amount of historical relics, professionalism, and beauty of Sagres made it a truly remarkable experience.

It was touching to see how much of the Gazela they could recognize as being Portuguese, and to see how truly excited they were to see her.

We're grateful to the Sagres crew for allowing us to take part in this historic occasion of kindred ships.

The Guild is hiring a Programs & Education Manager!

PSPG is searching for a dedicated and experienced educator to facilitate and drive forward our programming. See our job description on Idealist for more information (link in Bio). If you or someone you know is interested, please email [email protected] with a cover letter and resume detailing your interest and relevant experience, and how they are a good match for PSPG.

This role will begin around July 20 as a part-time arrangement with the intent to grow into full time as programs ramp up. Main responsibilities will revolve around Program Delivery (i.e. facilitating youth programming like school trips and group visits; and our workforce initiatives like high school internships and pre-apprenticeships), Community Partnerships & Outreach, and Coordination & Administration.
