What role did Philadelphia’s faith communities play in the American Revolution? This panel discussion will feature experts on the varied ways faith leaders and communities thought about and responded to the revolution in light of their theological commitments and ethnic and racial identities. Following a series of brief presentations, panelists will discuss what lessons can be learned as we reflect on the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Introduction and moderation by Dr. David Krueger, executive director of the Dialogue Institute and Religious Freedom Trails project

Admission is $12, which includes a drink ticket for a beverage of your choice (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Advanced tickets are available at a discounted rate of $10 each until the day before the program.

This program will take place inside the Old Swedes church sanctuary, followed by a reception in Riverside Hall. For a modest donation, you can taste delicious gourmet desserts paired with w**e, coffee or tea.

From Philadelphia favorites Applied Mechanics comes a spectacular new show, RUN BEN RUN: a maniacal, surreal satire starring famous Bens from throughout American history, from Ben Franklin to Ben Affleck. Thrown together on a film set with the goal of making a movie about the John Gast painting American Progress, the Bens wrestle with identity, fame, and the versions of American identity that live within each of us.
The play surrounds the audience with a panoply of different offerings from the different Bens. Will Ben Affleck be able to finish his movie without his star, Ben Franklin? Will Ben Vereen dance his way out of danger? Will Benedict Arnold clear his name? And will Benito Antonio Ocasio Cortez (Bad Bunny) finally write the song to bring us together? The Bens begin to wonder: can they rewrite history? Or should they just… run away?

What happens when Ben Franklin, Ben Affleck, Benedict Arnold, Ben Vereen, Ben Lay and Bad Bunny walk onto a movie set together?

In RUN BEN RUN, Philadelphia immersive theater company Applied Mechanics joins forces with the Christ Church Preservation Trust for a surreal, spectacular satire of the stories America tells about itself. Running October 6 - 18 at Christ Church Neighborhood House, the world-premiere production uses drag, choreography, pastiche and an absurd original script to ask a timely question during the nation’s 250th anniversary: What exactly do we mean when we talk about American “progress”?

The Bens have been assembled on a movie set to recreate John Gast’s infamous 1872 painting American Progress, an allegorical depiction of westward expansion and Manifest Destiny. There is just one problem: their star, Ben Franklin, has disappeared. Now they have to make the movie without him.
