Igloo’s story with PAWS began 11 years ago, when he was adopted along with his brother Duncan. They have been beloved family members ever since. “Igloo has always loved being around people and is happiest when he’s with us,” Martina shares. “He truly feels like so much more than a pet, he is our family.”

Recently, Martina noticed a concerning lump on Igloo’s leg. She brought him to their veterinarian, who suspected the mass was a sarcoma – an invasive, cancerous tumor that required amputation. Martina was quoted $5,000 for surgery – a cost her family simply could not manage, especially after recently welcoming a new baby. With seemingly no other options, they made the heartbreaking decision to schedule an appointment for humane euthanasia at PAWS and prepared to say goodbye.

When Martina brought Igloo to PAWS, our veterinary team reviewed his case, and offered to perform Igloo’s amputation for a small fraction of the price they had been quoted elsewhere, making it affordable for Martina and her family. They never imagined their sorrow that day would turn to hope, and enthusiastically scheduled the procedure. Igloo’s surgery was successful, and he is now healing in the comfort of home, surrounded by his loved ones, and adjusting to life on three legs.

“The fact that he was adopted from PAWS and that PAWS saved his life so many years later makes it such a full-circle moment and really highlights how special the work you do is,” Martina shared. Stories like Igloo’s show just how pivotal access to affordable veterinary care can be for families facing unexpected medical crises. More than a decade after PAWS brought Igloo and his family together, we were able to help them begin a beautiful new chapter, rather than face a devastating loss. With support from PetSmart Charities, PAWS places lifesaving care within reach, and helps ensure that financial strain doesn’t have to mean losing a cherished pet.

For Black Cat Appreciation day, feast your eyes on Just Raisins! This affectionate ding d**g really might have “just raisins” rattling around in his adorable little noggin, and frankly, it only adds to his charm 🖤

At 7 months old, there truly is never a dull moment with Raisins around — be prepared for silly chirps, galloping through the halls, and “Halloween kitties” at any given time! But don’t worry, he has lots of cuddles to bring to the table too: he adores affection and instantly melts into your arms, giving slow blinks and air biscuits as he gets the motorboat purrs going. Plus, he loves dog and cat friends, too!

With Raisins being such a happy-go-lucky guy, you wouldn’t know he had a rough start as an under-developed stray. With his unusually small size and other odd symptoms, it was deduced that Raisins had a liver shunt, on top of being positive for feline leukemia. We knew his journey wouldn’t be simple, but it was clear that he had plenty of zest for life!

With some medications and a special diet, Raisins is asymptomatic presently and steadily putting on weight. He’s looking for a special adopter who can continue his medical management and establish care with a specialist for further treatment in the future. But Just Raisins is ready to take on anything that comes his way with you by his side!

If ready to give some extra TLC in exchange for boundless love and silliness, adopt Just Raisins! His resilience and sweet personality melt the hearts of everyone he meets, and we promise you’ll feel the same ♥️

Ps. Raisins’ adoption fee is waived through August 31 for !

Calling all orange kitty lovers: this sweet gentleman is looking for a very special adopter!

Jesse is a fabulous (and incredibly handsome) guy, but after a lot of troubleshooting, we’ve had to accept that he just doesn’t always want to use the litter box 🥲 We know this isn’t the easiest need, but we’re hoping someone will see the loving, goofy, cat that he is and be open to a little extra management — whether that’s in a traditional indoor home, a safe indoor-outdoor setup, or a working-cat placement with plenty of human attention. Because Jesse is SO worth it!

He is an energetic, playful, and talkative 8-year-old cat with a big personality. He loves greeting you when you get home by jumping up on the couch or bed, rolling around, and showing off his tummy. He also responds to his name and will often come running when he hears, "Jesseeee!"

Jesse is especially playful with wand toys, but also enjoys chasing small toys and treats, trapping them under his paws. After playtime, Jesse is just as happy to settle down for a long nap. You may walk into a room wondering, "Where's Jesse?" only to hear a muffled meow coming from under a blanket!

If you think you could provide Jesse with a loving, patient home that meets his needs, please reach out ASAP at [email protected] or [email protected]! Jesse’s adoption fee is waived through August 31 for , and he’s also looking for a foster home in the meantime.

Have you been fishing around for the perfect pup? Cast your net toward Starfish! This beachy babe is an absolute sweetheart who's ready to find safe harbor in a loving foster or forever home 🌊

Starfish is truly as affectionate as they come. She lives for cuddles, happily snuggling beside you on the couch or in bed, and is happiest simply being with her people. Every reunion is the highlight of her day, even if you only stepped out to grab the mail! She celebrates with her signature "happy feet," doing the cutest tippy taps and joyful little hops that are guaranteed to make you smile.

This goofy girl is up for just about anything, as long as she gets to do it with you. Starfish always excited for a walk, enjoys relaxing car rides, loves playing fetch and collecting tennis balls like treasures from the deep. At 5 years old, she also already knows "sit" and "come," has wonderful manners, and has earned glowing reviews from her foster, who calls her "the most gentle, sweet dog I've ever met."

Because of her bad knees (she recently got surgery to feel more comfortable), Starfish sometimes appreciates a little boost onto the couch or bed, and she'll reward your kindness by snuggling as close as she possibly can.

Starfish’s adoption fee is waived through August 31 for ! If you’re not ready to adopt, email [email protected] to learn more about this sweet girl today ❤️🌟

When we rescued this beautiful cat from the city shelter back in June, we named her Coconut Splash in honor of her gorgeous coat. Our medical team also got right to work treating the open wound on her neck. Despite being injured, she gladly leaned in pets and was incredibly sweet.

The very next day, Alondra walked into our Grays Ferry clinic with hope in her heart after spotting her cat's photo on Petco Love Lost. She had been frantically searching for her cat, Miso, after she slipped out while she was bringing groceries into her apartment. After reviewing her building's security camera footage, she discovered that a neighbor had found miso and, not realizing she belonged to someone in the building, had taken her to ACCT.

The moment Alondra walked through our cat housing she immediately recognized her beloved Miso, and the two were reunited! Miso is now safe back home, and we've continued to help provide medical care for her since.

We're grateful for tools like Petco Love Lost that help reunite love pets with their people, and we're honored to have played a small part in helping Miso heal and find her way home.

It's dangerous to go alone — take this! His name is Link, and he could really use a foster home. He landed at the shelter after developing potty issues out of nowhere at 12 years old, and we strongly suspect stress or an underlying medical condition as the culprit. We'd love to give him some time to decompress in his own foster suite so we can get to the bottom of what's troubling him!

Link is a sweet and gentle guy who melts for affection and, apparently, goes absolutely bonkers for catnip (it's always the quiet ones)! He's a really friendly guy who's been very stressed at the shelter, and can't wait to feel safe again so he show off what a wonderful companion he is. Email [email protected] to learn more about starting your adventure with Link today!

What exactly makes a Wrong Girl? According to The Wrong Girls writer-director Dylan Meyer, it’s someone who has a little trouble adhering to the social and logistical norms everyone else seems to navigate just fine. Someone prone to a bit of self-generated comedic chaos…which brings us to Coco Kee and Paris.

Two bonded sisters. Eight years together. Zero interest in societal expectations. Occasional disagreements. Frequent zoomies. Recreational catnip. Absolutely no idea where their birth certificates are. Just two wild ladies who are looking for a home to call their own.

Coco is the outgoing entertainer of the pair — playful, curious, always ready to stir things up. Paris is her gentler counterpart, a little more reserved at first but incredibly sweet once she warms up. They’ve perfected the art of sisterhood: chasing each other around the house, wrestling, playing, cuddling, and periodically getting on each other’s last nerve. Their bond is unmistakable, and these ladies come as a package deal. They’re also well-mannered housemates who use their scratching post like pros (your furniture will thank them) and never say no to a game with their favorite toy mice.

PAWS had a blast celebrating THE WRONG GIRLS with NEON at the The Philadelphia Film Society premiere earlier this week. Starring Kristen Stewart and Alia Shawkat, the film is a hilarious, heartfelt ode to female friendship, cats, questionable decision-making, and the special kind of chaos that unfolds when your best friend is right there cheering you on. Major love to Dylan Meyer for spotlighting wayward chaotic women and crucially, for understanding that cats are a *vital* part of the equation.

THE WRONG GIRLS is in theaters now, so grab your bestie, enjoy the ride, then come home and kiss your cats. But if your home is currently lacking two 8-year-old best friends to partake in a little catnip with afterward…Coco Kee and Paris would like a word.

💚 Coco Kee and Paris are currently available for adoption at our Old City Adoption Center and have waived fees as part of Clear the Shelters all month long! Stop by to meet them in person or learn more about them at phillypaws.org/adopt
