Congratulations, Maestro Scaglione, Cavaliere! 🎶🇮🇹

We are thrilled to share that our President and Music Director, Maestro Louis Scaglione, has been named a Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy (Cavaliere dell'Ordine della Stella d'Italia). The honor recognizes his 35-year career promoting Italian music and culture in the United States.

The insignia was presented by Nico Frandi, Consul General of Italy in Philadelphia, at a ceremony at The Union League of Philadelphia. NIAF Chairman Emeritus Joseph V. Del Raso and NIAF Board member Hon. Frank Giordano of the National Italian American Foundation were in attendance.

The Order of the Star of Italy is conferred by the President of the Italian Republic on people who strengthen the friendship and ties between Italy and other nations. For our PYO family, this honor feels personal. Countless students have discovered the music of Verdi, Puccini, Bellini and Respighi under Maestro's baton. That includes last season's all-Italian opening concert celebrating NIAF's 50th anniversary, and Verdi's Requiem is still to come this February! 🎻

Please join us in congratulating Maestro Scaglione in the comments below! 👇 Complimenti, Maestro!

Anton Wingert, violist for PYO, is featured in WRTI's Young Artist Spotlight! Read through to the end. Anton gives his advice to someone just starting out, saying, "Get a really good teacher and a good instrument. Enjoy the process and being part of an orchestra." We won't share the joke he made after this quote - you'll have to read it! 😋

Way to go, Anton!

Meet 17-year-old violist Anton Wingert, a senior at Central Bucks West High School, a member of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and Settlement Music School's Gabriel Braverman Quartet, and a Philadelphia Music Alliance for Youth (PMAY) artist.

Mr. Torres, fourth horn of The Philadelphia Orchestra, has performed with the Atlanta Symphony, the Dallas Symphony, and festivals across the country.

When you see Rick Clark, our Vice President of External Affairs, give him a big high-five and a big “congratulations” for being recognized by the City of Philadelphia for his dedication to equitable access in music education!

As part of the Original Music City Task Force, Rick draws on more than two decades of experience in arts advancement to help bridge institutions, educators, and policymakers and strengthen the foundation for future generations of artists. We’ve included a photo of the official citation. Trust us, it’s worth the read.

We are so proud, and so grateful, to have Rick on the team. This recognition is a glimpse into the work he is doing for PYOMI, our mission, and music education throughout our community.
