⭐ Mastery Schools 25 for 25 Spotlight⭐
Rahmayne Jackson-Bey is a 2020 graduate of Simon Gratz High School, believing that “once a Bulldog, always a Bulldog.” As a student at Simon Gratz, Rahmayne was anchored in the value of teamwork, playing on the football and rugby teams while balancing academics as a STEM honors student. His standout achievements on and off the field afforded him the opportunity to play collegiate football at Bloomsburg University, and he now works in sales at Limbach Company.

After graduation, Rahmayne has continued to support the Mastery Schools network. Most recently, he testified before the Philadelphia School Board and helped to secure a five-year charter renewal for the school, securing the longevity of a high-quality education for current and future students. Rahim’s Cleaning Service is not limited to providing janitorial services for the Mastery Schools central office. In partnership with Rebound, Mastery’s violence prevention program, the business provides hope and on-the-job training for students. Resolve Philly celebrated the company’s five-year anniversary by speaking with owner Rahim Bey about his passion for combining business and mentorship.

Cleaning has always been an escape for Rahim, and now, his business gives him the opportunity to instill the skills of time management and accountability to his team members, made up of students at Pickett. Teachers credit Rahim’s mentorship with improving students’ academic and social outcomes, providing them with deeper motivation and confidence to succeed beyond the classroom. Harrity Elementary alum Mya McQueen graduated in 2013 but has never lost sight of our value of student achievement. Mya has built a career of increasing educational opportunity for students through college access preparation as Vice President of Enrollment & Institutional Partnerships at Lionheart Coaching Academy.

While a Harrity student, Mya was a member of the Chess Club and the Graduation Committee and returned during high school to serve as assistant coach for Harrity’s first cheer team. There is truly nothing like the sound of students in our hallways again! This week, we welcomed more than 14,000 students back to 23 campuses across Philadelphia and Camden. Between the cheerful reunions, warm embraces, and the bright spark of curiosity lighting up classrooms from day one, the joy and energy across our network have us excited for the school year. As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, we are especially grateful to every student, family, educator, and staff member in our network, and we can't wait to make this an unforgettable year with student achievement at the forefront!

Over the summer, rising 9th- and 10th-graders at Hardy Williams High School got a head start on their futures at the Health Institute at Hardy’s (HIH) Summer Bridge Program. HIH is an innovative initiative run by Mastery Schools and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies. The exciting four-week summer enrichment program blended real-world healthcare exposure with hands-on learning to keep students sharp and inspired for the school year ahead. Throughout the program, students learned the importance of mental health, analyzed healthcare principles through real-life ethical scenarios, and tested their knowledge through an interactive scavenger hunt at CHOP. Through every lesson and workplace exposure, students built the confidence and skills needed to thrive in high school and beyond. Seeing these future healthcare leaders dive into learning has been inspiring, and they are officially ready to go deeper into the HIH curriculum this school year.
