Mission Fishin is a project of our faith-based organization called Move Out of the Box. This project was founded to share our love and experience of fishing through fishing instruction and practice for children and adults who would not otherwise have the opportunity. Realizing that there are many families without a father in the home, we set out to help single moms and their children learn the bas
ics of fishing with little cost. Our first event was in 2011, participating in Reimagine Warrington. We have been a part of Reimagine events every year since, typically 3 or 4 per year, bringing a day of hope and fun to those in need. When possible we are also able to take part in smaller events throughout our area. In some cases children and adults are introduced to fishing and exposed to sea life for the first time! We take a hands on approach and have stations that the kids visit throughout the course of the day. These stations currently include a walk through exhibition trailer with aquariums and other learning material, a water table with hermit crabs and snails, a fish matching game, a casting game, fish measuring and regulations, and seminars with various instruction. One of our members is a balloon artist and has a fun station providing kids with free balloon creations! Through the Fish Florida equipment grant program we have been able to provide free rods and reels to the children who complete the educational stations. This program is made possible by the sale of the Fish Florida sailfish specialty vehicle tag. We are so appreciative of this program and the ability to provide free equipment to children. We are sometimes able to take kids or adults on a fishing trip, individually or in groups. We have had the privilege of taking a group of wounded warriors offshore, a group of children with disabilities pond fishing and small family groups on inshore trips. Mission Fishin is a work in progress and we are constantly looking for ways to streamline and make our time more productive and fun for all the guests who come through. We view this opportunity as a fun way to introduce kids to the outdoors, to teach environmental responsibility and stewardship of the resources God has provided, and to share hope through the gospel of Jesus Christ!
