What an incredible day of progress at Historic St. Michael’s Cemetery! Thanks to the tremendous efforts of the Florida State Parks Hurricane Strike Team, whose members traveled from across the state, along with our dedicated volunteers and board members, we made significant progress with hurricane cleanup today!
As fallen trees and large limbs are removed, we are discovering additional damage to historic grave markers. While we accomplished a great deal today, there is still much work ahead of us.
⚠️ IMPORTANT SAFETY REMINDER: The cemetery remains CLOSED to the public until further notice. In addition to the hazards posed by fallen trees and unstable limbs, the Strike Team discovered what we believe may be a live electrical line exposed by an uprooted tree near our Alcaniz Street entrance. We have contacted FPL and were advised that an electrician will need to disconnect the line. We are waiting for an electrician, but as you can imagine there is quite a lot of backlog.
For your safety, please DO NOT enter the cemetery until we officially announce its reopening. We understand how much this historic place means to our community, and we appreciate your patience as we work to make the grounds safe again.

A massive thank you as well to our volunteers and board members who continue to step up when our cemetery needs them most!
We still have a long road ahead, but thanks to these extraordinary people, we are making progress every day.
