Big Announcement!
Skeetawk Names Ryan Thompson General Manager

Ryan Thompson has been promoted to the role of General Manager for Skeetawk Ski Area. He previously served on the Skeetawk Board of Directors before resigning in 2025 to work as Skeetawk’s Construction Development Manager. In this role, Ryan served as Project Manager for capital development — including the $2.5+ million snowmaking infrastructure project that enabled a successful winter season during a critically low natural snow year, the installation of the new surface lift, and the new access road completed in the summer of 2025 that expanded accessibility and guest transportation options.

He is taking over leadership of the organization from Megan Justus, who has served as General Manager since December of 2021. Megan is moving on to new opportunities, leaving Skeetawk on good terms and filled with pride and gratitude for how the community has grown this ski area over the past 5 years. Megan is incredibly supportive of Ryan’s selection as the new General Manager. “I believe that Ryan is the right person to champion Skeetawk’s growth during this next phase of development. I am extremely excited for the future of Skeetawk under his leadership.” said Megan.

Ryan brings an exceptional breadth of experience to the role, bringing 25 winters of Snowsports and mountain operations experience in areas such as Scotland, New Zealand, Colorado, Lake Tahoe, and Argentina before making Alaska home. Originally from Northern Ireland, he began his career as a snowsports instructor and progressed to become a member of the New Zealand Snowsports Demo Team — representing the country at international forums and contributing to teaching methodology development on a global stage.

From those early days on snow, Ryan built a career defined by progressive leadership. He moved into snowsports school management before transitioning into broader operations, joining Woodward Tahoe where he expanded year-round programming. His trajectory continued at Boreal Ridge Corporation, where as Senior Manager of Base Operations he led cross-functional teams, directed capital safety projects, and embedded sustainability initiatives across Boreal Mountain Resort, Soda Springs, and Woodward Tahoe.

As General Manager, Ryan will bring that same strategic discipline and forward thinking to all aspects of Skeetawk’s operations — people, programs, guest experience, safety, and continued infrastructure development. Ryan is eager to continue local involvement supporting the growth of this community oriented ski area.
