This post is to provide notification that the board of the Alaska BBQ Association unanimously voted on 10/22/23 to dissolve the association. Just a quick backstory of how we came to this decision. The current executive committee and board members were put into place in 2022. Since that time the board has tried to resolve issues with the association’s 501(c)(3) status to operate as a non-profit organization. This IRS designation is required to accept sponsorships and/or donations with a tax advantaged status. The board sought outside legal/CPA advice and the recommendation was that recreating lost/missing documentation of the previous boards would be a costly and time-consuming process.

But fear not! The wheels are currently turning to establish a new organization for promote BBQ and/or food sport competitions here in Alaska. This, of course, will include BBQ competitions and steak cookoffs coming your way for 2024. If you would like to be involved in establishing this new organization then we would love your input! Simply post a comment on the Alaska BBQ Association FB page, 907 BBQ FB page, or reach out to any of the previous association board members (Jason Parson, Jeremy Peal, Rick Petersen, John/Michelle Mann, Tracey Hayes, Carsten Gardner, Brad Stennett, Matt Pinkert, Roy Woody (Fairbanks), or Andrea Fullbright).
