Today, we recognize the different histories and perspectives connected to this day.

For some, Columbus Day honors Christopher Columbus and Italian American heritage and the contributions that have become part of our nation’s history and culture. For others, Indigenous Peoples’ Day is an opportunity to recognize and honor the Indigenous peoples and communities who have been here for generations.

At Ossining MATTERS, we believe learning about our history means making room for different perspectives, honoring the people and cultures that have shaped our communities, and continuing to learn from one another.
