There was some good news in 2020 for New Yorkers: The fracking waste loophole was closed, NYS will no longer accept out-of-state waste in our wastewater systems and landfills.

Since NY’s fracking ban 6 years ago, Riverkeeper lobbied to close a loophole that allowed for out-of-state hazardous fracking waste to be dumped in our landfills and wastewater treatment facilities. A bill to close this loophole passed the NYS Legislature and was signed by Governor Cuomo in August. Follow the link to read about this and our other victories for 2020.
