A powerful message from NYC Council Member Council Member Sandy Nurse at Child Care Isn’t A Walk In The Park.

While more than 25,000 children remain stuck on child care waitlists, Family Child Care providers are effectively earning just $6 per hour to do the essential work of caring for our communities.

New York must invest in CCAP so every family can access affordable child care and fund providers through a $500 million workforce retention fund so child care workers can earn a living wage.

Child care makes all work possible. It’s time our budget reflects that.

Tom Morello stood with Hands Off NYC, in front of 26 Federal Plaza, where immigrant families are still being brutally detained.

& sang a powerful rendition of, THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND. THIS LAND IS OUR LAND.

Grateful for everyone who showed up, spoke out, and continue to fight back

Child care providers deserve more than $6.01/hour.

Tomorrow, providers and families will gather at City Hall Park for Imagine A Day Without Child Care to demand a $500 million Workforce Retention Fund and real investment in the child care workforce.

Ball without Billionaires. The People Vs the Met Gala.
On May 4th, we uplifted and centered that all workers deserve their bread AND roses.
Union workers, single mothers working two jobs, immigrant laborers, and community activists defending their homes, families, and safety in the workplace — these are the true heroes who deserve to be celebrated.
A direct counter to the Jeff Bezos-sponsored Met Gala, we honored the brave leadership of workers who stood up to Amazon — warehouse, delivery, tech, the Washington Post, and beyond.
Shout out to the unions, worker centers, and community organizations who walked the red carpet to declare their LABOR IS ART: SEIU 1199 · SEIU 32BJ · Starbucks Workers Union · Teamsters 804 · Teamsters 1932 · Carolina Amazonians United for Solidarity and Empowerment · Missouri Workers Center · United for Respect · Make the Road New York — and so many more leading the way.
Because Jeff Bezos and the billionaires steal and exploit our culture. But working people, our labor, and our resistance ARE the culture.

Today we honor every worker who keeps this world running. We’re kicking off an 11-day countdown to A Day Without Child Care.

For the next eleven days, providers across New York will share our stories: the low wages, the 17,000 kids waiting for care, the families locked out, and the vision for what care could look like when New York actually invests in it.

On May 11th, providers, parents, and advocates will gather at City Hall Park to demand a child care system that works for all New Yorkers.
