Let’s face it: navigating reentry for returning citizens is a challenging journey.

However, programs like Hudson Link believe in equipping our formerly incarcerated people with the tools to craft reimagined futures, foster shared communities, and embark on New Beginnings.

Through our New Beginnings program, Hudson Link empowers returning citizens with a sense of safety, resourcefulness, and community during the reentry process.

Built by individuals who have experienced similar challenges, the program sheds light on the positive impact of providing a safe environment, supportive community, and comprehensive services for returning citizens eager to make a difference.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Iris D. Bowen, a pioneering figure in the Higher Education in Prison sector. Her influence in establishing and nurturing educational programs within correctional facilities has left an indelible mark on Hudson Link for Higher Education.

Iris D. Bowen's impact on the Higher Education in Prison field and her pivotal role in the college program at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility were truly remarkable. Her tireless efforts in organizing to reinstate the college program at Bedford Hills, which later inspired the establishment of Hudson Link at Sing Sing Correctional Facility and the groundbreaking documentary "Degrees of Freedom", have left an enduring legacy.

Beyond her impactful work in prison education, Iris's contributions as a Social Worker at the Mt Sinai/Harlem Jack Martin Fund Center exemplified her compassionate spirit. She played a vital role in supporting individuals affected by HIV and aiding in the reintegration of citizens back into society. With a Master's degree in Social Work from Lehman College and a Licensed Social Worker, Iris was a staunch advocate for social justice, giving a voice to the marginalized and vulnerable. Her advocacy also extended to her involvement in the Advisory Board for Women Building Up, where she tirelessly championed for the disadvantaged, leading the way in making this world a better place.

The loss of Iris D. Bowen has left a profound void, yet her legacy will continue to resonate, inspiring positive change and social justice endeavors. May she rest in peace.

Happy Pride Month from Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison! As we celebrate the LGBTQ community this month, it's crucial to recognize how those who identify as LGBTQIA+ are disproportionately affected by mass incarceration. At Hudson Link, we stand for inclusivity and equality, advocating for all voices impacted by incarceration.

To support allyship and advocacy, you can get involved by spreading awareness about the challenges faced by those who identify as LGBTQIA+ within the prison system. Encourage others to educate themselves, participate in events supporting LGBTQ rights, and support like-minded organizations working towards equality for all. Together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone impacted by mass incarceration.
