Silence, please. It is our turn to speak.

Those words carried throughout Beyond the Block: Bedford Hills, marking a powerful day centered on reclaiming voices, amplifying stories, and celebrating the creativity and humanity of women at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility.

For the first time, Beyond the Block was held at a women’s correctional facility—and the significance of that moment stayed with audience members throughout the day. Through dynamic performances and storytelling, Bedford Hills residents claimed space to be heard on their own terms, reminding us that every voice carries power, and every story deserves an audience.

Circles of Support, Hudson Link, Rehabilitation Through the Arts, and Center for Community Alternatives were proud to collaborate in creating a space where residents could share their talent, perspectives, and lived experiences. Each message shared on that stage reflected the residents' creativity, connection, sense of possibility, and the transformative power of being heard.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the J.C. Flowers Foundation for making Beyond the Block possible and for partnering with our organizations to help create this meaningful platform.

We celebrate the residents of Bedford Hills who shared their voices so boldly, everyone who helped bring this day to life, and an audience that left carrying their stories forward.

Bedford Hills is speaking. And we are listening.

🎬 Hudson Link alum Clarence Maclin is headed back to the big screen!

We’re proud to celebrate Clarence as the lead in “In Starland,” the directorial debut of British star Ray Panthaki. Following Clarence’s breakout performance in “Sing Sing,” this exciting new project is already drawing major attention from the independent film world.

And there’s even more to celebrate: “In Starland” will make its world premiere at the 30th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, where it has been selected to close the festival’s first feature competition.

Join us for a community documentary screening of BEYOND on November 11 at 7pm. At Sing Sing prison, a group of incarcerated men organize and prepare for a TED-style event, featuring personal narratives and ideas for changing the prison system. With immersive access to Sing Sing, the film follows the speakers’ emotional journeys from first audition to their final climactic moments on stage. Co-Producer Sean Pica will speak and answer questions after the screening. At Saint Luke's Darien, Anderson Youth & Community Center, 1864 Post Rd, Darien. On September 25, Hudson Link welcomed our community to the Hudson Link Boutique for a special launch of Federica Coppola’s The Real Pain of Punishment: Prison, Belonging, and the Quest for Humanized Justice. The book’s final chapter was co-authored by Hudson Link alumnus Mujahideen Muhammad alongside fellow Hudson Link students R. A. Wallace., P. Cortez, S. Townsley, and M. S. Hale.

The gathering brought scholarship and lived experience into conversation, reflecting on how belonging, dignity, and human connection can transform the way we understand justice, accountability, healing, and public safety.

By celebrating these authors and creating space for scholarship shaped by lived experience, the launch embodied a central theme of the book itself: that meaningful approaches to justice begin with recognizing our shared humanity and the fundamental need to belong.

What a day 💙

A huge thank you to Roc Nation, Team Roc, and the UJC team for inviting Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison to be a featured organization at the 2026 UJC Summit.

From familiar faces to brand-new connections, we were overwhelmed—in the best way—by the love, curiosity, and genuine excitement people showed for our mission and the legacy Hudson Link has built in the higher education in prison space. Every conversation was a reminder that this work resonates far beyond prison walls, and that there is a growing community ready to learn, connect, and help move this work forward.

We’re leaving with full hearts, new relationships, and even more energy for what comes next.

Are we tired? Absolutely. Do our feet hurt? Without question. 😂 Would we have it any other way? Not for a second.

Texas, get ready to go Beyond the Block. 🎤✨

Hudson Link is headed to Texas (UTSA) with opportunities to experience powerful stories that center the voices, ideas, creativity, and lived expertise of people impacted by incarceration.

Beyond the Block grew from a vision created by Hudson Link alumni at Sing Sing: a TED-style platform where incarcerated students could share their stories, celebrate their victories, confront personal and systemic challenges, and offer ideas for change. What began inside Sing Sing has grown beyond New York — including to San Antonio — and continues to challenge perceptions while reminding us of the potential within every person.

We’re also excited to spotlight a Sing Sing screening, giving audiences another chance to engage with stories of community, transformation, and what’s possible beyond prison walls.
