American Legion Riders chapters are well known for their charitable work, which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local children's hospitals, schools, veterans homes, severely wounded servicemembers and scholarships.

With news being announced today that The American Legion Riders Department of Kansas, lost one of their Riders due to an accident during The Legacy Ride, I have already started hearing rumors swirling about the details. While the majority of us are unaware of the details, please wait for that release before you share information.

This has also brought attention to safety issues and concerns during past Legacy Rides. While I cannot address all of those concerns, I can address the one being talked about most right now.
BLOCKING TRAFFIC

In the State of Florida, blocking traffic using our own Riders is illegal. Period.

Remember when planning your rides, take into account the size of your group, if you need to break into multiple groups to navigate high traffic/lights areas, then that’s what we need to do to avoid those situations.

Safety during our rides is paramount and should be at the forefront of Road Captains and Riders minds at all times. We strive to start and end each ride with all riders arriving safely to their destination.

Although Bruce is headed to National Convention tomorrow for one last adventure with The American Legion, today marked his final day in the office! ❀️ We couldn’t let him leave without celebrating the years of leadership, laughs, memories and friendship he’s shared with our staff.

Bruce, as you cast off into this next chapter, we wish you nothing but tight lines, big catches and plenty of adventures ahead. You’ve certainly earned it!

Veterans who qualify for a Disabled Veteran (DV) plate can now get the DV designation on the Florida American Legion specialty plate!

That means you no longer have to choose β€” show your Legion pride AND keep your DV designation and applicable benefits. ⭐

Normal registration and license-tax fees are waived for qualifying veterans, while applicable American Legion specialty plate fees still apply.

The Florida American Legion Riders State Ride-In is coming October 9–11, 2026, proudly presented by the 3rd District and hosted by American Legion Post 291 in Steinhatchee, Florida!
This special weekend will support our American Legion Children & Youth Program while bringing our Riders and American Legion Family together for three days of riding, fellowship, live music, great food, and fun!
