Hey Orlando,

Join us for a free, five part virtual workshop series exploring the plants that grow around us and how we can better understand, grow, and care for them.

From September through January, we’ll gather once a month for a short micro lesson guided by Vern Renzette, who has spent 8+ years working in urban agriculture and horticulture. Each session is a chance to learn, ask questions, share knowledge, and connect with other gardeners and plant lovers in our communities.

Plants are part of how we feed ourselves, care for one another, and build relationships with the land around us. The more we understand the plants we grow and depend on, the more connected we become to the food systems that sustain our communities.

This series is an opportunity to slow down, get curious, and start looking at the plants around us through a botanist’s lens while building knowledge we can carry back into our gardens and communities.

All skill levels are welcome and the series is completely free.

Today is the National Day of Mourning.

A day to honor Indigenous resistance, land stewardship, and the communities who continue to survive and protect what was never meant to be taken.

In addition to being the commemoration of the genoc*de and displacement of Indigenous peoples, it’s often used as a way for a box to be checked when it comes to fulfilling community needs.

At Neighborhood Fridge, we recognize that food justice is inseparable from Indigenous struggles for sovereignty. The food systems we navigate today were shaped by colonization, displacement, and ongoing harm—and our work is a small part of imagining something different: shared abundance, collective care, and access to food without policing or stigma.

While many celebrate Thanksgiving, we choose to focus on giving what we can, every day.

A federal court has HALTED SNAP benefits for MILLIONS. This is not an accident—it is a political choice targeting the most vulnerable communities.

Our hearts are with Jamaica and the Caribbean as they recover from Hurricane Melissa — one of the strongest storms to hit the island in history.

Climate disasters like this deepen existing food insecurity and threaten farmers’ livelihoods across the region.

We’ve shared trusted resources and organizations offering direct aid and support.

Hey Orlando!

This past Sunday was filled with love, care, and community.

We hosted our first Clothing & Plant Swap at The South Street Farm, where we’ve been growing fresh fruits and veggies for our Parramore Community Fridge—just a short walk from the farm. Huge thanks to everyone who came out, shared plants, seeds, and donated clothing that will go toward our upcoming cold weather distro to support unhoused neighbors.

We also joined our friends at for their First Sunday Meal Prep, filling the fridge and pantry with soups, sandwiches, and prepped veggies for the week ahead.

Grateful to everyone who continues to show up, build, and care alongside us. Stay tuned for more community events at the farm 🌻💗
