💥 TPS Member Spotlight! 💥
We are excited to announce our November Member Spotlight, Will Milne! Will Milne is a visual content creator and educator in North Texas. Currently, he teaches for Denton ISD and North Central Texas College. His work is an interesting variety of stark photographic minimalism and clever visual design in his own art work, while also showing off a full, vibrant command of composition in his commercial and editorial work.

Save the date for Thursday, November 19th for an evening with artist James Geitgey. Jim Geitgey is a West Texas–based photographer and geologist whose work explores the physical processes that shape both the Earth and the human-built environment.

Jim will present his lecture: AI & Artistic Intelligence: How AI Can Expand a Photographer’s Thinking...which explores how photographers can use artificial intelligence as a tool to strengthen their creative thinking without replacing their artistic judgment. Through practical examples, the presentation demonstrates how AI can assist with photographic critique, image selection, research, learning, project planning, artist statements, photo archive searches, and technical problem-solving. This is NOT a talk about asking AI to generate or retouch photographs.(Jim wanted everyone to make sure that was emphasized).

Ultimately, the presentation will introduce AI as a photo assistant, or thinking partner, while photographers retain control over their creative vision, decisions, and artistic voice.

Join us online on Thursday, November 19, 2026, from 6 pm – 7:30 pm Central Time for this exclusive Zoom presentation. This event is FREE to all TPS members.

NEW CALL FOR ENTRIES

Texas Photographic Society is proud to announce the call for entry for By Hand: An Exhibition of Contemporary Alternative Process Photography, our sixth exhibition featuring hand-made photo-based imagery created using alternative photographic processes and historical printing methods. Our juror is acclaimed fine art photographer, author, and educator Jill Enfield. This call is open to artists of all levels internationally.

By Hand will open at the Wilma and Terence Dennis Gallery at Austin College in Sherman, Texas, on February 8, 2027 and run through March 26, 2027.

Deadline to submit: December 20, 2026⁠

Laurie Smith, "Things Left Behind at the Border Wall Collage, Santa Teresa, NM" 2025

"Many of my photographs are taken on public land, but I’ve been given opportunities to photograph the wall that I couldn’t access without community or family collaboration or introductions. One of the most thrilling experiences was being introduced to a retired helicopter pilot who invited me to photograph the border wall from his Vietnam-era open-air helicopter.

My brother, who often takes his four-wheel truck on desert dune excursions, got excited about taking his intrepid sister out to photograph the wall in the dead of night under the stars. I’ve driven the 100 miles of dirt road along the wall from Columbus, New Mexico, to Fabens, Texas, then mirrored that stretch on the Juárez side—that was public access until recently. I go on hikes, alone or with family, deep into the desert, also on public land, to look at and photograph the wall from a distance, and to discover what’s left behind—clothing, shoes, backpacks, bones—bleaching in the sun, sometimes just yards from a paved road."
