Michelle came to Black Girls Code camp because she liked the idea of making games. On presentation day, she had an original game, a setup she was proud of, and total confidence: "I think it's going to go great."

She's Built for This is officially in session in Oakland! 🧡

On September 26, our cohort of 6th through 8th grade scholars gathered for the first of seven Saturdays built around leadership, STEM exploration, and goal-setting. What makes this program special is that it's a cohort. The same girls show up for each other every week, so the confidence they build comes with a community attached.

We'll be sharing more from the room as the semester unfolds, all the way to Celebration Day on November 7, when families join us to celebrate everything these girls have built.

Think her password is strong? On October 10, she finds out.

Black Girls Code is hosting a free online Workshop for girls ages 7 to 17. They'll build and encrypt their own digital lockbox in micro:bit MakeCode, then switch sides and run a brute-force attack against it, the same technique hackers use to get into real accounts. She'll measure how password length and complexity change the odds, and walk away with habits that protect her actual apps and accounts.

It's Cybersecurity Awareness Month. This is what it looks like when she's the one who understands the attack.
